This profusely illustrated book of 51 recipes is perfect for anyone who likes flavorful, gourmet foods. The Second Edition/8th Printing was revised to cover bread makers with a pan capacity of 16+ cups. Among the breads I'm anxious to try are Bleu Cheese & Port, Greek Isle, Peaches & Cream and Sweet Coconut Curry.

Also included: Tips for Success, a Loaf Size & Texture Guide for each recipe, recipes for complementary spreads and Troubleshooting. The book is suitable for adventuresome bakers at all levels of expertise and I highly recommend it.

Printed in 1999, I paid only $0.01 plus shipping for this wonderful book which arrived quickly from Amazon Marketplace in basically mint condition. Seller: Free State Books.
This is the first book I bought when I was first learning how to make bread. It has a really great mix of beginner, simple recipes, to more complex recipes for the professional. The onion bread recipe tastes just like an everything bagel and is my new go to recipe. It also has a troubleshoot section, which explains to you what might have gone wrong if your bread collapses, has holes in it, rises too much, etc. It also has a section of recommended accessories, yeasts, spices and the like (which are dated but will give you a good idea of what you might need). All in all this is a great book for beginners or pros, and the recipes are very tasty!
This bread machine cookbook is the absolute greatest!!! I have made several breads from it from Classic White, Sun Nut, Cottage Dill, and Raisin Bread and they all come out great!!! No only does it have bread recipes, it also has recipes for hand formed things like calzones, rolls, strudels, etc., as well as recipes for various spreads for your baked creation, and also helpful hints for bread making. This book, along with More Electric Bread are a must have for anyone who has a bread machine and wants to use it for more than just a loaf of plain old white bread!!!
If you happen to own an automatic bread machine, or are thinking of getting one, Electric Bread by Suzan Nightingale is the best book I have used so far. I purchased my first copy of Electric Bread right after it was published; now there are three editions available, including a paperback and a spiral bound, as well as an Electric Bread for Kids (which my Grandchildren like to cook out of when they're at my home), and More Electric Bread which has even more great recipes.

I also bought the book for my Mom as a gift with a bread machine for Mother's Day in the 90's when the machines were new and expensive. Between the two of us, we tried almost every recipe in the book, and almost every recipe turned out beautiful, perfect loaves (except for the times we got distracted and forgot yeast, or salt). The one exception for both my Mom and me was the Baked Potato Bread, which apparently doesn't work in our Utah altitude. The Light Rye Bread is the best rye I have ever tasted, and I love the Cottage Dill and the Pumpernickle breads too.

This book has recipes not only for numerous breads that will bake into perfect loaves in your bread machine, but also things like English Muffins (the Honey Bran Muffins are divine), sticky buns, and even a picnic loaf to hollow out and fill with fried chicken. These recipes are made on the dough setting and shaped and baked separately from the machine. In addition, there are a few recipes for spreads to go on the breads.

I like the fact that there are comments on each recipe with suggestions on what to serve the bread with, as well as a good index. There are basic instructions for using most types of bread machines, and also troubleshooting tips for the rare occasions that a certain loaf doesn't turn out quite as perfect as expected. Each recipe has a beautiful picture that lets you know what you will be getting in about 10 minutes of hands-on time; it does take a few hours to complete the kneading, rising, and baking cycle--precious time you can use for something other than baking bread in the kitchen!

If you're interested in saving time, but want fresh bread in lots of varieties, this is the book for you. I highly recommend it, especially now that automatic bread machines are so cheap.
This is actually my second copy of this cookbook...the first purchased many years ago when it was first published. I’m happy to say that I don’t see many, if any, changes. It’s important to know that I’ve never had a failed loaf with any of the several breadmakers I’ve owned using this book, and I’ve made many of the recipes contained herein. There’s lots of variety and the recipes and tips are easy to understand and follow. Nightingales second book, More Electric Bread is a fine sequel. short, ignore the fact that it was first published years ago...the technology hasn’t changed much and you should enjoy using the bread maker all the more for having well tested recipes that taste great.
I'm so upset I'm in tears. This edition has so many errors the editors must have been drunk. The book has 3 sizes for each recipe. The largest should use more ingredients than the middle size. In more than one recipe that's not the case. I have an earlier edition and purchased this as a gift for a daughter. Our favorite recipes are all screwed up. I'll now try to locate an older edition that hopefully has correct quantiles for these breads.
Repurchase of a book that I had years ago. It's just what I was looking for
Came fine and looks as described. Its a good book, lots pictures, history and nice mix of recopies
