When Annabelle Archer finds one of DC’s most despised culinary divas impaled on an ice sculpture, it seems that revenge is, indeed, a dish best served cold. For Better Or Hearse is the second book in the Annabelle Archer cozy mystery series.

Iced!

Wedding planner extraordinaire Annabelle Archer is used to dealing with difficult personalities -- neurotic brides, despotic mothers, and prima donna bridesmaids. However, being chased from a swank hotel kitchen at knifepoint by a shrieking Chef Henri takes the cake. Soon after, Washington's most thoroughly despised culinary artist is discovered dead, impaled on an ice sculpture -- a crime which surprises no one, since revenge is, after all, a dish best served cold.

Unfortunately, the police think the hotel's sometimes temperamental but always stylish catering exec (and Annabelle's good friend) Georgia Rhodes did Henri in -- so the planner and her posse set out to put the real murderer on ice. But when the corpse of a rival culinarian turns up in a walk-in freezer -- and more nasty chef-deaths quickly follow -- the suspect list suddenly shrinks . . . as do Annabelle and her cronies' chances for survival, if they get caught poking around in a killer's kitchen.

Grrrr. I enjoyed the first book, a bit silly like most cosy murder mysteries but not too preposterous. I loved the DC setting (I live in Virginia) and even though I really don't care about weddings the characters were for the most part fun. This one lost me at half way. SPOILER ALERT! Our heroine comes up with great evidence to clear the suspect (her friend and the reason she's involved herself in another investigation) but does she give it to the police - noooo of course not! Because they already suspect her friend and she doesn't think they will consider it fairly? This despite the detective being set up as a possible love interest?? What are we in, a corrupt 3rd world country (OK, don't answer that...) So she runs off back to the scene of the murder to find some more suspects with her ditsy assistant in tow. I'm done.

This is the second book of this series I’ve read and once again I enjoyed the festivities. I’ve been behind the scenes of many weddings and the combination of a murder mystery and all the many facets of wedding planning is genius.

I love Laura Durham’s characters and artful dialogue. The tales are fast-paced and light-hearted and the perfect book to keep on the Kindle app on my phone. I find myself looking forward to waiting in line just so I can keep reading.

I have many more nice things to say, but I just downloaded the next book and you will have to excuse me.

Even though I read the second book in this series first, I still liked this book. I enjoyed the interactions between all of the characters in this book. I liked that Annabelle Archer was able to piece together the clues to help solve the crime. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys mysteries and weddings combined.

As soon as I finished Book 1 in this series, I bought this one (Book 2) and read it very quickly. I enjoy the characters so much. I love weddings and I love "cozy mysteries", so these books were a great find for me. This book had a great ending. I did not see it coming and was surprised when the main character solved the murder mystery. I look forward to reading more in this series and hope Laura Durham continues to write more!

I really enjoyed this book! In fact, so far I've enjoyed all of the books that I've read by this author. Not only is Annabelle extremely amusing, so is her entire crew! My favorite is Richard, but they're all really fun and entertaining. The mystery is fun too, and there are enough plot twists to keep you guessing.

Annabelke and her growing crew are at it again. Her daffy neighbor and a tattooed Scotsman have joined Annie, Kate and of course Richard and let's not forget Fern. I laughed my sides off with their antics of murder investigation. This is a light hearted murder mystrry that all should love and if not, well learn to like it and laugh. They sure are a cornball group.

After the first book in the series I had high hopes. The second book plodded along and could have been condensed greatly. Kate, the assistant, was my favorite character in book one and she is seen less in book 2. The story was cute but because it dragged in places, I was over it before the book ended.
Really enjoyed the characters in this series, who all have very distinct personalities and are entertaining. The story is fun and entertaining and the mystery remains a mystery until the end. Very well written!
