Belly of the Beast by Caleb Alexander is unlike any fiction book I have ever read. Belly of the Beast is so intriguing because it not only stops at Christian being a prisoner but at him planning and preparing for a better life.

Belly of the Beast by Caleb Alexander is unlike any fiction book I have ever read. This is not your typical urban street lit about young drug dealers trying to avoid getting put in jail; Belly of the Beast is about what happens once a young black man is put in prison. It follows the story of Christian and what his life is like behind bars. Belly of the Beast does not glamorize street life as is often done in today's rap music and other books written in the street lit genre, instead it proves that the real struggle begins once you are behind bars.

With Belly of The Beast author Caleb Alexander does an exceptional job revealing the horrific reality of incarceration. There is no glorification of the conditions that exist behind bars

With Belly of The Beast author Caleb Alexander does an exceptional job revealing the horrific reality of incarceration. There is no glorification of the conditions that exist behind bars. Although the book is undoubtedly urban fiction it surpasses other books in that genre by exploring the consequences of crimes which so many other books fail to do. They usually end once the character is jailed or if the incarceration is delved into it is usually glossed over as a place where characters get their weight up or plot the moves they’re going to make upon being released. But with Belly of The Beast readers will find a dark gritty tale that exemplifies how the truth always makes way better fiction.

Caleb Alexander penned a great novel, he told this story with grace and truths. Caleb educates you on the politics of the BOP( Bureau of Prisons), religion and gives you deal on atonement and the awful truth about the BLACK family. For Caleb to able to put all these truths in novel form with characters is awesome.

Christian Alexander is a average dude reared in San Antonio, Tx by his grandmother. He's not illiterate was taught values and morals like most of our youth are taught , but had the desire to tamper with the streets. Low and behold one day the Belly of the Beast catches up with him, the BOP. There he learned the real game of chess , who the real players are and how to maneuver against them. BOTB gives real insight about prison dos and dont's. Christian got the education that Harvard or Yale could never give him. It was unfortuante for him going to prison at a early age but rewarding at the same, he became a MAN .BOTB is really for the open minded ,the message he is trying to convey is truly deep nothing is sugar coated. Trust me you will have no regrets with BOTB if your goal is to learn something and not be entertain. The power truly lies within each and everyone of us if you have faith.

This is one of the best books I have read. A true page Turner. Alexander goes to prison a boy and after 9 years comes out a man. A man who starts a group that helps to revolutionize the mind of the original black man. During his time he sees so much death that it makes him become the animal they want him to be, but he survives to go home to raise his son to be what God has created him to be. A man of faith. So inspiring and uplifting. This book touched my soul.

This is touching and real. Now I understand when my nephew tells of stories of his life in prison. This confirms his change in heart as a young black man. Thank you for this read, now I understand a little more clearer his take in this life as a black man.

I choose this rating because of the hope in mankind that this book inspired. The belief in God, faith in that it is OK to step into the unknown, knowing their is a destiny on you. No matter how dark it gets, knowing God allows second chances.

I learned so much from this book. I even gained more reading material to add to my knowledge of self. Caleb leads the reader in a place that many of us have never been to, and in reality may never go. However with his vivid storytelling, you are cast into the center of one man's real life nightmare, while praying for a peaceful sleep.
