A heady, slippery dramedy-lite of modern love and urban manners, ex-lawyer Delson's debut puts native New Yorker Maynard Gogarty, a not quite talented composer/filmmaker, in the path of hardworking Californian Jennica Green, who arrives in New York to be illustrious.

This book is written in an unusual way in that you meet most of the characters through what they are thinking! Some are major, some minor, but all interesting, and some kind of weird. Maynard Grogarty, 36,and Jennica,(her parents couldn't decide on Jennifer or Jessica),Green, 28, first see each other on the subway when a short stops the train.

Maynard and Jennica - Rudolph Delson. I just picked this up in the airport yesterday, but it was just one of those books that I couldn't put down. as well as the eyes of everyone around them, from friends and family to a subway conductor and an artist. As it says on the back, sweetly and succinctly: "Love, fate, and the number 6 train. Admittedly, some of the characters take forever to get to the point - the action's a little slow at the beginning.

Maynard and Jennica book. Delson tells the story of this improbable love affair through the voices of Maynard and Jennica, along with their family, friends, and assorted characters (among them two attorneys, three journalists, and a rap star) pulled into their dizzying orbit. He brings to life a pair of lovers who are flawed, complex, at once eccentric and deeply familiar-and in whose story we continue.

In the case of Maynard and Jennica, everyone includes: many living and some dead relatives, a blond-bombshell .

In the case of Maynard and Jennica, everyone includes: many living and some dead relatives, a blond-bombshell Russian-Israeli scam artist, a hip-hop impresario, a shabby lawyer, a long-lost friend and a writer for The New Yorker. Exuberantly illuminating much that is true and often horrifying about our times, page-turning and wryly funny, Maynard and Jennica remains at heart a love story. Delson has given us a pair of lovers who are human, flawed, complex, at once eccentric and deeply familiar – and in whose story we continue to feel invested long after we've turned the last page.

The first part. It is quite brief, and purely introductory. JOAN TATE, tipsy after another revelatory lunch with her son, illustrates her point (early August 2000): Here’s a famous story.

A wildly original debut,Maynard and Jennica is both a hilarious urban comedy and a captivating love story. In the summer of 2000, while riding the uptown number 6 train, the musician/filmmaker Maynard Gogarty first encounters the beautiful Jennica Green. Though their initial meeting is brief, when fate next brings them together a romance ensues, and as with most things in life, everyone has an opinion.

Maynard and Jennica first meet on the uptown No. 6 train. Happily, they meet again. Jennica Green belongs to that subgenus of New Yorker - those who come from somewhere else

Maynard and Jennica first meet on the uptown No. Jennica Green belongs to that subgenus of New Yorker - those who come from somewhere else. Her parents, Mitchell and Susan, live in San Jose and are mystified about why she moved east. Mitchell and Susan always appear together, engaged in a kind of Stiller-and-Meara banter in which they squabble and finish each other’s sentences. Jennica comes to New York fantasizing about hardwood floors, finished a little darker and more orangey than is in style these days,.

Maynard Gogarty is a defeated musician, a reformed misanthrope who makes a hobby of surreptitiously filming the fashion faux pas of New York City commuters. On an uptown 6 train in the sweltering summer of 2000 he meets Jennica Green, a nostalgic Californian who calculates that she's been lonesome 6. 3 percent of her adult life. Though their initial acquaintance is fleeting, when fate next brings them together, at a screening of Maynard's film, romance intrudes.

This book isn't going to be everyone's cuppa. I sampled the beginning and liked the writing, so I bought the book. I think the writing was fantastic in lines like getting mugged by the wind; the heart bubbling like a water dispenser, with a bubble jellyfishing to the surface; Maynard doing the panting stallion yoga pose; and an event that causes your memory to put a post-it sticky on it as a reminder to tell your sig. other. Plus, you don't get to read an argument between crickets and frogs every day. I thought it dragged in parts, especially the sections on Ana's parents. For the most part I thought the book was interesting, well written, funny at times, and different than the usual book out there. At times the multiple perspectives felt like a bit much, but in general it kept the book moving and I could read it in short bursts. I'd read another book by this author.

it's a nice read. i hated maynard. jennica seemed a little more relatable but it took me a long time to pin her down... is she a b*tch or is she sweet? is she tough or vulnerable? It's difficult to tell for a while. and honestly i didn't really find myself caring enough about their relationship to want to read all of their landlord's and parent's and everybody's opinion... so i kind of skimmed through the parts that got bogged down. also, a lot of the subplots seemed a little far-fetched, and throwing a 9/11 story into the mix? unnecessary. but i don't regret reading it and it filled up a couple or rainy afternoons, so hey.

I just couldn't finish it. Some parts were intriguing. Some weren't. Some was tedious. The way it was presented was a struggle to read.

Some reviewers do not care for the ingenius structure of this novel with its multiple viewpoints (including the insects and frogs) but I loved the book. The characters and dialogue are quirky and realistic, and the novel blends moments of deep hilarity, remorse and rumination to paint a realistic picture of two young New Yorkers trying to find themselves, each other, and ultimtely emotionally survivng 9/11.

I hated this book. I never stop reading a book so the fact that I stopped at 25% says a lot.
Told in quips by anyone mentioned in the book, it is disjointed and awkward.
I didn't like a single character.
I only buy kindle books at a discount but I disliked this book so much that I an writing this review so others won't waste their $2.99.

I didn't find this book interesting and did not finish it. The story jumped around with various characters that made little sense to me.

A bit too..willing to sound smart. Good style, interesting construction but it is too long and at times it feels as if it is lacking of winds beneath its wind
This book has a curious but entirely enjoyable format. It is Innovative and a great read. Kudos to Mr. Delson; may we be reading much more from him.
