The Lover of History book. This is my first fiction book in six months. I love Jonathan Dee. I could probably read his grocery list & find it super enthralling. So, I'm really excited to read this book.

Jonathan Dee (born May 19, 1962) is an American novelist and non-fiction writer. His fifth novel, The Privileges, was a finalist for the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Dee was born in New York City. He graduated from Yale University, where he studied fiction writing with John Hersey.

Jonathan Dee's four previous novels were hailed for their combination of mordant moral vision and ironic dissection of our self-deceptions about race and victimhood (St Famous), art and advertising (Palladio), guilt and forgiveness (The Liberty Campaign) and the strains connecting the personal to the political (The Lover of History). The Privileges, which comes garlanded with laudatory quotes from Richard Ford and Jonathan Franzen, is supposed to be Dee's big breakthrough book. Jonathan Dee is at the Guardian Hay Festival tomorrow.

Dee has published six novels, including The Lover of History, The Liberty Campaign, St. Famous, Palladio, The Privileges, and, most recently, A Thousand Pardons. He is a staff writer for The New York Times Magazine, and contributor to Harper's Dee collaborated on the oral biography of Plimpton, "George, Being George", published by Random House in 2008.
