Books by Iris Johansen. Dear Reader, I really like the characers in And the Desert Blooms. I think you’ll agree that those sparks developed into fireworks in And the Desert Blooms.

Books by Iris Johansen. I first introduced Pandora and Phillip in A Summer Smile. Introduced isn’t quite the correct word. Even though they were secondary characters, I had trouble keeping them from dominating the book. All the ingredients were certainly present: sheikhs and show business and two people who were meant for each other and have to figure out a way to overcome odds to get there. I had a great time with them. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it.

Her hands were shaking slightly as she took it off and placed it in the velvet-lined jeweler’s box. She took a moment to draw a deep, steadying breath. It was stupid to be so frightened now. She had. planned everything down to the last detail. No, nothing could go wrong. The round medallion shone against the black velvet lining of the box. The morning sunlight streaming through the hotel room window picked out the design on its surface, a raised rose in full bloom pierced by a sword. She reached out one finger and touched the rose gently.

Iris Johansen fans are rarely disappointed, but this slow, lackluster novel does not do justice to its performer.

But even though Brazil's narration is well delivered, her varied talents can't make this story anything more than forgettable. Iris Johansen fans are rarely disappointed, but this slow, lackluster novel does not do justice to its performer. Library Ed., BBC Audiobooks America, 2008.

Narrated by Angela Brazil. Don’t look for me. I’ll come back when I’m ready. Pandora Madchen wrote those words when she ran off six years ago. In that. Now Pandora was ready to return to the desert state of Sedikhan and the man she’d loved too soon and too much. Sheik Philip El Kabbar was a businessman whose power and influence extended throughout the world-but for six long years he’d been unable to find the woman he still considered it his duty to protect.

Iris Johansen (Goodreads Author), Angela Brazil (Narrator). When he gets confused "And the Desert Blooms" is the story of Pandora and Phillip. What a disappointment! I've read several Iris Johansen books (the Eve Duncan series) and really enjoyed them. Now one thing which blantantly stood out in the previous book is the engaging banter and heartbreak between Pandora and Phillip, who played an important role, and finally they got their book. Sheikh Phillip of Sedikhan takes in Pandora, his physician's daughter as a protector only when she is a teen. So when I found this audio book, I checked it out.

(I was a little startled when I opened the page to write this review. Amazon has added a new line: Are you over 13? I wonder what that's about. Anyway . . . )

This is one of Johansen's old Loveswepts. It has the usual elements: overwhelming sensuality, light humor, melodramatic fun, and characters about whom you care. I think the heroine was a little too fond of running away in the face of emotional turmoil - to jump on a horse, no less. EVERY single time. And I wasn't that enamoured of the hero in general. Actually, I enjoyed both leads more as the secondary characters in The Summer Smile than as stars in their own story.

But these are minor issues. When I am in the mood to suspend disbelif and be briefly swept away, I adore Johansen's romances. I am thankful that they have gone digital, even when I have to wait to buy until they are on special. I cannot recommend that anybody pay the $7 and $8 price tags normally asked on her Category-length backlist books. But when the price drops, snatch it up.

This is one of my favorite authors. I have enjoyed reading, her plots are interesting and complex. This was one of her first books, from an old publisher. The book is short in comparison to other books, about 200 pages, so the plot is not as complex as someof her later books. I also liked the fact that it is part of a series, she was one of the first to have characters that show up in more than one book. If I like a character, I am sorry when the book is finished. I like having characters show up in another story.

From a haunting teen to an alluring woman, Pandora blooms in a wild and wonderful bride. The promise of the future with the man of her dreams makes this book blossom into a great love story.
