Twenty-three poems that transformed English poetry Wordsworth and Coleridge composed this powerful selection of poetry .

Twenty-three poems that transformed English poetry Wordsworth and Coleridge composed this powerful selection of poetry during their youthful and intimate friendship.

Lyrical Ballads, with a Few Other Poems is a collection of poems by William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, first published in 1798 and generally considered to have marked the beginning of the English Romantic movement in literature. The immediate effect on critics was modest, but it became and remains a landmark, changing the course of English literature and poetry.

Co-written by friends William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge . Lyrical Ballads (1798) is a landmark collection of poems that marks the beginning of the English Romantic Movement in literature.

Co-written by friends William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the collection broke away from traditional poetic form. Of the twenty-three poems, Wordsworth penned works such as 'Lines written a few miles above Tintern Abbey' and 'The Idiot Boy' that use colloquial speech and take the everyday as their theme.

Lyrical Ballads book. This isn't as imbalanced as it may seem, for one of Coleridge's four poems is the impressive-and lengthy-"Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

Originally published 200 years ago, "Lyrical Ballads" is published here as it was compiled by Wordsworth and Coleridge. Accepted as one of the most influential books of English poetry, it includes "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" and Wordsworth's "Tintern Abbey". Coleridge (1772-1834) has been criticized as a political turn-coat, drug addict and plagiarist whose wrecked career left only a handful of magical early poems.

This is a nice collection of poems about nature and man's place within it. Personally, I didn't truly come to appreciate Wordsworth until I hit my 30s. I read Lyrical Ballads and other poems as an undergrad in college, but at the time, he struck me as a touchy feely tree-hugger. I recall reading lines like, "I wandr'd lonely as a cloud," and thinking to myself how fluffy it all sounded. But the other day, I read the following lines: "The world is too much with us, late and soon, getting and spending, we lay waste our powers." Think about just those two lines for awhile. I sure did. I read this in college and didn't think twice or bat an eye, but I now see this poem, and the larger collection in which it is found, contains profound wisdom about our alienation from nature and the self. If you buy this book, my recommendation is to start with "Lines Written a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey," and read maybe four lines a day, in no particular rush, letting the words and imagery seep in slowly like amber down a tree.

I don't know what is up with the edition I got, but it looks like a word doc got parsed into book format and slapped in a cover. There are no page numbers, practically unformatted, no publishing information, and a random Chinese character inserted into a line. I guess the content is right, but what the hell happened to this book?

William Wordsworth is perhaps my favorite poet from this period. I often struggle with poetry, but find him both comprehensible and touching. "We Are Seven" is one of my favorite poems from any period and is included in this fine collection. I was able to download this collection for free on Kindle and of course it E presents an unbeatable value. I am very grateful to have come upon this collection. Thank You...

It's Coleridge and Wordsworth. It's lyrical poetry at its most intellectual peak. It's beautiful. And pretentious. But beautiful.

I am not a scholar in any sense of the word, but I feel the need to stress how wonderful this collection is.

"Lyrical Ballads" is often said to be the beginning of the Romantic Movement, a claim which I can neither refute or prove. What I can say for certain, though, is that it is filled with some of the most moving, thought provoking, and beautiful verses ever put on paper. Whether you are looking for something dark, something whimsical, an epic tale, or a sweet romance-there is something in the collection that will appeal to you. Wordsworth and Coleridge are both masters of their craft, a fact that they prove in "Lyrical Ballads"

Great reading for poetry lovers. "Tintern Abbey" is Wordsworth most popular and thorough reading of his romantic period philosophy. Every time I read Wordsworth, I want to spend more time out in nature, dancing with the daffodils, going "nutting" under the walnut trees, and listening to the cuckoo's song of love. "The World is Too Much With Us," and we ought to enjoy God's beauty while we can.
