Kristjana Gunnars (born March 19, 1948 in Reykjavík) is an Icelandic-Canadian poet and novelist. She immigrated to Canada in 1969. Her work explores, among other themes, 19th century Icelandic settler experience in Canada's prairie provinces. The Prowler (1989), winner of the McNally Robinson Book of the Year Award. The Substance of Forgetting (1992). Night Train to Nykobing (1998).

Kristjana Gunnars (born March 19, 1948) is an Icelandic-Canadian poet and novelist. Gunnars was born Kristiana Gunnarsdotir in Reykjavík, Iceland, the daughter of Gunnar Bodvarsson, an engineer, and Tove Christensen Bodvarsson, a Danish-born textile arist. In 1964 the family moved to Oregon, where her father taught at Oregon State University. She married Charles Kang in 1967, and in 1969, moved to British Columbia, where her daughter was born in 1971.

Kristjana Gunnars has received the George Bugnet Award for fiction; the Stephan G. Stephansson Award for poetry; and the McNally Robinson Award for fiction. She’s been nominated for the Books in Canada/Smith Books First Novel Award, and the Governor General’s Award for non-fiction. She has taught at the University of Alberta and Okanagan College.
