Hot Siberian - Gerald A. Browne. Every working Soviet citizen is required to have such a book. It serves as both a job record and a ledger of deportment to be presented when changing from one job to another, often determining if the move will be up or down.

Hot Siberian - Gerald A. Actually, Kislov no longer gave a damn what his workbook said about him.

No ordinary thriller this (by the author of the bestselling 19 Purchase Street and 11 Harrowhouse, but a story as scintillating as the octahedron crystal on which it focuses. A puzzle to gemologists, too flawed to interest top diamond dealers, Stone 588 has, nevertheless, remarkable healing power, a fact only gradually understood by its owner, New York diamond dealer Springerand then others. New York Times–bestselling author Gerald A. Browne's suspenseful disaster novel about a massive mudslide along California's southern coast The people of Southern California worship the sun, but their idol has forsaken them.

What he was for her now would be extremely important in nourishing what he hoped she would be for him in the near future r pocket, he cautioned himself. He gauged the depth of Vivian’s hurt and took a position on the edge of it, a vantage from which he would surely know when it reached the stage of healing over. One of my favorite authors. Don't be put off by the title, it is a great story. As soon as I finished it, I re-read the last chapter... it was that good, a perfect finish of the story.

Diamonds are valued above all other gem stones, with or without reason. The world diamond market is carefully controlled and monitored by what is arguably the most successful and oldest cartel in the world. Question the cartel's decisions or offend them in any way and you will be punished in whatever way the cartel feels is appropriate to your transgression.

Nikolai Borodin is a Russian gem trader, assigned by the Soviet Ministry of Foreign Trade to deal with The System through its office in England. He finds he likes the privileges and possibilities outside Russia. When he meets and becomes involved with a British divorcee with an unquenchable taste for the finer things in life he begins to actively seek a way to leave Russia for good. Then The System's enforcers target him as the source of "unauthorized" Russian diamonds flooding the market. Nikolai decides to try to find out how the diamonds are being smuggled out of Russia. As he investigates he becomes more and more convinced that both The System and the Soviet Ministry of Foreign Trade are corrupt and both have singled him out to take the fall. The ending is both surprising and satisfying.
