The Surgeon’s Meant-To-Be Bride Amy Andrews. Her hands roamed to the smooth muscles of his chest, trailed down his flat abdomen, and she took pleasure in their quick response to her touch. She could feel them contract beneath her nails and when she slipped her hands beneath his boxer shorts to grab handfuls of his tight buttocks she grinned in triumph as the hardness of his erection pushed urgently between her hips. Gill grasped the bottom of her scrubs top and whipped it over her head in a swift movement.

Be prepared, as THE SURGEON'S MEANT-TO-BE BRIDE is a tearjerker. The background of the war provides a real sense of just how dangerous but oh so valuable these types of medical personnel really are. They risk their lives daily for people who would- and sometimes do- kill them without a thought. Amy Andrews shows the heroic side of this profession in a beautiful and touching way. The Surgeon's Meant-to-be-Bride by Amy Andrews
Harlequin Medical Romance # 285 - Jan 2007

Dr. Guillaume Remy and his trauma nurse wife, Harriet had loved their life of helping the suffering in war torn countries. They'd both made commitments to their MedSurg missions and neither had ever wanted children. But then Harry changed the rules when she held her nephew in her arms and later learnt that her own biological clock was ticking faster than she had thought. Gill thrived on their life in the world danger zones, and shuddered at the thought of babies. Their opposing sides to the baby issue cause them to separate. Gill had buried himself in his work, holding on to the hope that Harry would be back soon. Harry had taken the time apart to decide her future. Loving Gill had always been paramount to her, and having his baby would be her ultimate fulfillment. But she's running out of time, and when she rejoins their field unit, Gill is eager for reconciliation. Only nothing's changed; her drive to be a mother is stronger and his resolve not to become a father hasn't faltered. So on the last day of their field mission, Harry feels she has no choice and she presents Gill with the divorce papers. And this begins the last 24 hours before the mission completion and Harry walks out of his life forever. Gill can't let that happen.

I love the way Ms. Andrews begins this book with a Dear Reader letter composed by Gill, expressing his bewilderment on Harry's about face on the baby issue and his deep fear that he is about to lose her. Both are wonderful characters that love each other deeply. The divorce papers read "irreconcilable differences" and this is the heart breaking truth for both of them. This book is the last 24 hours of their mission and how with each passing hour and moving from one medical crisis to another, they share an emotional roller coaster that shakes both to their core.

This is my first book written by Ms. Andrews, and I loved it! This is a fast paced love story that will pull at your heartstrings. Having been in a similar medical situation as the heroine, this one was particularly emotional for me. These issues were handled wonderfully, keeping the deep love between Gill and Harry always at the forefront. And though I did fear that they might not find their "reconciliation", I was very pleased with the steps they took to get there. This is an awesome read!

If you want a fast paced emotional read with lots of medical detail this is the book for you. The hero Gill and his wife Harriet are on a countdown. First for the end of their rotation in a medical facility in one of the trouble spots of the world, secondly for their marriage.

After a reconciliation that has lasted two months after a year apart, Harriet has served Gill divorce papers citing irreconcilable differences. After seven years of marriage Harriet has realised that more than anything she wants a baby, and at 35 she doesn't have time to wait for Gill to change his mind.

The sense of urgency comes with each chapter title, counting down the hours. 24 hours to say goodbye. 24 hours to find common ground for two people who love each other desperately but no longer want the same things in life. I was emotional by the end of chapter two.

In normal circumstances 24 hours could never be enough to change a situation that is fraught with emotion. But in this case, as the medical team deal with life changing situations for their patients, there are messages here for everyone, including our hero and heroine. Both have to deal with personal issues in that time that may change everything. Will it be enough? It is edge of the seat stuff as the countdown nears it's end.

In one way this book is all back to front. It starts with sizzle but in the following 24 hours there is no time for more than a glance across the operating table, a quick interaction in passing. Yet it is totally absorbing, deeply moving and the ending satisfying.

The sexual energy between the Nurse Harriet Remy (known as "Harry") and her husband Guillaume is electric but it is just not enough. Harry returns after a separation from her husband Guillaume, head guy for a MedSurg team that flies into hot spots and war-torn countries to provide health services for WHO (World Health Organization). Children have never been part of their plan --- the thrill of their humanitarian work was the priority. Harriet, called "Harry", has changed the game plan. When she discovers her fertility is in question, the desire for a baby becomes more important than anything. Guillaume loves her but he can't pretend --- he doesn't want a baby. Harriet returns with divorce papers to her last mission for MedSurg, but with all this sexual tension in the air, will it become a mission to save their marriage? Neither of them intends to compromise! What can happen when life suddenly changes an individual's goals in a marriage?

THE SURGEON'S MEANT-TO-BE-BRIDE begins with explosive physical, sexual tension but soon the romance adds both a suspenseful and tender element as well. Each chapter ticks down the hours and creates a fast-paced read. The medical setting reminds the reader of M.A.S.H. in terms of the medical drama but without the army bureaucracy or the sometimes sexist humor that M.A.S.H. had. I found myself emotionally moved by the tender and sad moments. THE SURGEON'S MEANT-TO-BE-BRIDE touches on the issues of love and family and generations through objects and the fertility theme. The happily-ever-after of this romance is very intriguing and a particular reading delight. The ending is brilliant --- not an easy simplistic ending, but one that the characters have to fight for and one that is true to the hero and heroine --- and one that moves the reader. Amy Andrews takes the cake when it comes to writing a romance where the hero and heroine really get inside of each other and see each other without any masks! Very unique!
