The Sir Douglas Quintet was an American rock band, formed in San Antonio in 1964. With their first hits, they were acclaimed in their home state. When their career was established (subsequent to working with Texas record-producer Huey Meaux), the band relocated to the West Coast. Their move coincided with the burgeoning San Francisco psychedelic rock scene of the mid 1960s to early 1970s. Overall, the quintet were exponents of good-times music with strong roots in blues and Texas-regional traditions.

Douglas Arthur Brown is the author of seven books. His latest The Island Hoppers was released in November of 2015. The Globe and Mail called his novel, Quintet, a masterfully written book. Adrian, Rory, and Cameron are identical triplets summoned home by the sudden death of their parents. Inseparable in youth, they’ve drifted apart as adults, and after the funeral they agree to keep in touch through journals in which each recounts the steps that led him away from the other two. At every critical step looms the shadow of Talbot, the oldest brother, and the secrets he’s hoarded for a generation. This haunting novel about shifting family dynamics recalls the work of Anne Tyler.
