The term Great American Novel (GAN) refers to a canonical novel that is thought to have captured the spirit of American life. These novels are generally written by Americans and deal in some way with the question of America's national character. The Great American Novel is sometimes considered America's equivalent of the national epic. There is no consensus on which novel or novels deserve to be called the Great American Novel

The Top 50 greatest fiction books of all time determined by 128 lists and articles from various critics, authors and experts. This list is generated from 128 "best of" book lists from a variety of great sources. An algorithm is used to create a master list based on how many lists a particular book appears on. Some lists count more than others. I generally trust "best of all time" lists voted by authors and experts over user-generated lists. On the lists that are actually ranked, the book that is 1st counts a lot more than the book that's 100th.

If you liked the movie Office Space, or can relate the the TV show The Office you will enjoy this book. Ben Jenkins is so bored and miserable with his job, but can't seem to find a way out. Readers can relate to all the little moments that can be hilarious and ridiculous when working in corporate industry. The office parties, cubicle gossip, and daily happenings of office poitics are immediately relatable. Even if you never have worked in corporate industry you will enjoy this book. The humor is witty and the characters are well rounded and deep. This a a great read!

As someone who has been in a similar position to Ben's predicament this book was a really accurate refection of office life. If you're stuck in a job and can't see a way out you'll find Ben tackles this in a way most of us would just sit and dream about. I was given this book by a friend and was amazed to find it was the author's first novel. It is written with humour but still tackled head on the work-trap issues that its easy to get stuck in. I won't spoil the plot but cuddly eagles, nervous twitches and golden tickets keep you on the edge of your seat. I'm going to go out of my way to read the next one when it comes out. If its as good as this one, then roll on number 3 as well.

Looking forward to Micheal's next venture. This freshman offering had some engaging chapters which had me along for the ride, but, a few areas had me wanting for more (meat and potatoes.) I thought it was a nonfiction for most of the book, but didn't realise, until the last page that it was a comedy nonfiction! Lastely,..remember, You American readers, that Micheal is British. There for, there will be times when you will have to backtrack to grasp the english (British) grammar. Well done! Mike,Chase your dreams.
