Anthology of Contemporary American Poetry: Volume 2. Cary Nelson. The Anthology of Modern American Poetry is one of the few anthologies that covers such a diverse group of poets and styles.

Anthology of Contemporary American Poetry: Volume 2. It allows students to see contemporary poets working in traditional forms and experimentation, and it showcases poets from a wide range of ethnicities, socio-economic groups, and American geographies. Like America itself, this anthology shows how diverse groups of individuals influence and inform each other in heartbreakingly beautiful ways. -Siân Griffiths, Weber State University.

Anthology of Modern American Poetry is an inspirational book to show American poetry and have great foot notes to understnd the poet's reason for the short story or poem.

Very well edited, I benefitted greatly from the brief biographies. Loved the large section on H.D.

Using this book for a grad class on American Poetry. The selections of Whitman are questionable, especially considering that there are no portions of "Song of Myself" included. Its length would warrant truncation for such a collection (as Nelson did with Pound's "Cantos," Eliot's "The Wasteland," and other long works). I also disagree with the absence of Lawrence Ferlinghetti from the collection. His importance is not limited to the City Lights bookshop and the printing of "HOWL." Five to seven pages would have sufficed, especially considering that that many pages went to poorly selected Whitman poetry alone.
The condition was a little poorer than I expected, but since it is for a class, I am not too upset about it. I just wish it was a little nicer, but it reads the same.
