Unique among Spanish textbooks, Aproximaciones al estudio de la literatura hispanica offers an introduction to literary analysis with readings from Spanish and Spanish American literature. Organized by the four genres of prose, poetry, drama, and essay, the text provides a rich and diverse array of reading selections. Each of the four main sections is preceded by an introduction to the genre and a historical overview. Ample notes and exercises accompany each reading, which is introduced with background information about the author. The revision features an increased number of women writers and Spanish American writers, new short stories and poems, and a new short novel, essay and play. An expanded version of this text, containing an increased number of readings from which instructors can select, is available on Primis.

I am headed back to school as a non-trad (read "older") Spanish major and wanted an overview of Spanish lit, with notes, historical and cultural context, as well as text. This book does it all. Since I am not using this for a class and was not particular about edition, the price (.99) was perfect.

I used this book (well, an earlier edition)back in college for an Intro. to Hispanic Lit. course. It gave me a great intro. to all types of literature. This book helped me appreciate poetry, which I had never been able to "get" before.
