Edited by Bonnie Wheeler and Fiona Tolhurst, literary inheritors of the feminist Arthurian legacy, these essays pay tribute to Maureen Fries, who played a ground-breaking role in re-examining traditional perceptions of the stories of King Arthur and his court as well as preconceptions about women scholars.

I bought this book for a class I am taking on Medieval English Literature and I am enjoying every page. It is a collection of essays written in memory of Maureen Fries, one of the most important Arthurian scholars of the last century. There are contributions from several well known scholars, from Michael Twomey to Norris Lacy, and the different essays deal with different aspect of the female characters of the Arthurian romances. Even if, of course, a previous knowledge of the Arthurian stories is advisable, you don't need to be an expert to enjoy and appreciate the essays.
