Getting There was a great book! I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in reading about Spirituality or Enlightenment. The book chronicles the spritual transformation of Adam, a despondent, crabby, and depressed eco-farmer in Australia. Through the help of your extraordinary teacher, Selph, Adam learns how to change his life and finally become a happier individual.

Praise for Getting There by Michael J Roads. Best Visionary Fiction of the Year" Winner. International New Age Trade Show (INATS®)Denver, CO 1999. Michael Roads has written a funny, hard-to-put-down novel about Everyman at the end of the twentieth century in Australia. A story of romance and adventure as well as spiritual insight, it’s a great read and would make an excellent gift for a friend or family member who delights in novels with a metaphysical flavor. However, your book Getting There has inspired me so much that I just had to write to you and express my heart felt thanks. It has made me sit back and rethink my life in ways I never had imagined.

It was interesting to look at all the rounded stones, to think that once a year they were under water after the rains. I needed to get a job. There was a factory in town that made special cardboard boxes for fruit growers, minimum wage but better than nothing. Or maybe I could do seasonal work in the fields, though usually the Mexican migrants snapped up those jobs, willing to work for next to nothing, below minimum wage.

Adam Baker, an eco-farming consultant, is divorced, estranged from his family... totally miserable. Walking on a deserted beach, he meets "Selph, " a precocius, overweight, wisecracking, sloppily-dressed teenager who appears out of nowhere and claims to be his long-sought spiritual teacher. Wanting to get Adam's attention, Selph brings a long-dead seabird back to life. Thus begins this funny, insightful, dramatic, and fast-paced adventure about the meaning of life. With Selph's wit, antics, and not-so-gentle guidance, Adam evolves from embittered selfishness to understanding life, death, and the spiritual basis of the universe. Against a background of passionate romance, injury, pain, and the harsh beauty of Australia, this magical story will enlighten and entertain and inspire you to appreciate and celebrate life, no matter what the circumstances of "fate" may bring your way.

I don't have the right words to express how magnificent this book and Michael are. I could not put this book down once I started to read. I spent two glorious days deep in the richness of its words. It brought to surface emotions I haven't felt in a long time and those unfamiliar to me on a physical level. This may be a fictional read but to me the probabilities could very well have come from Michael's own lives. Thank you Michael, Adam, Amber, and Selph.
excellent view into ones own state of being in and out of the current space suit (for want of an descriptor).. It is fiction..but is it??
some good meditations to handle pain or discomfort
A true story of the power of our thoughts, words and actions. Daily we live in a dream world until we awaken to know we need to change how we are if we are negative, angry or unhappy.

Where there is Love there is Light...
When you live mostly in a wheel chair as I do for the time being this book helps you through the hurdles that life puts on the way to recovery and you feel that all is possible if you will it hard enough.
Michael Roads' books may not be for everyone, but they always strike a deep, resonant chord inside me. "Getting There" is no exception. If anything, I think Michael may have outdone himself this time. I'm not even finished with it yet, and I'm already writing this review and hoping he won't be long in writing another one.
Way to go, Michael!!!
Another of Michael Roads books about growing into spirituality. Interesting concepts. An excellent guided meditation is included. This is a novel.
