Series: Thorndike Press Large Print Basic Series. I have almost all of Heather's books, and this one makes a great addition to my collection. Several times throughout the printing, words were broken up, which made the reader pause and reread the sentence. I assume it was done for spacing purposes, or paragraph formatting, but, I found it slightly annoying. You can't take an established character from previous books (Blackhawk) and make him Black hawk in this book.

Achieving a successful and profitable life in spite of a troubled past, doctor Angela Dawson pursues business opportunities in three major cities only to find her efforts compromised by a surge of drug-resistant staph infections.

Great story that holds your attention until the very end. As always, tons of detail but never boring. Thanks Robin Cook!
Robin Cook again skillfully touches many areas of Medical Ethics while telling a captivating story. It would be great to meet him and learn about his process of research for his books. He clearly has mastered the medicine part, but demonstrates equal command and detail in the elements of Business and Law touched on in this book. Can also glean some insight into his thought process through his characters. Dr. Cook also does a great job referencing prior books in the series. Fantastic read.
This book continues the story of two medical examiners with investigative minds. The plot is well thought out, character development (and consistency across the series) is good and the story is captivating. A fast page turner!
The book starts off talking about several different people so you are a little confused at first but keep reading it all comes tigether.
Gold as Heart
I may be predjudiced because Robin Cook has been my favorite diversion for many years, but I was surprised by all the bad reviews this book got. I particularly like the Laurie and Jack books and thought this was at least as good as any before. As, a chemical engineer (doctor) / wannabe MD (REAL doctor), I also read Cook to learn something more about medical technology. I wonder if the bad reviews come from people bored by such things. Anyway, what I liked most about this one is that all the characters, good and "evil", had some good qualities that we could get interested in. We see a picture of healing being distorted by greed and the disasterous train of events it often puts in motion. I was never quite sure how it would turn out - a fairly complicated tale, in which Laurie, the heroine gets herself in quite a pickle, as she has before, and again Jack is not quite available to save her, but Lou does it. Anyway, according to me, at least a 4 - I liked it. I am waiting eagerly for the baby episode; at Laurie's age, it should be fraught with medical perils.
This author know how to write and keep the suspense going. I have read several of his books and have enjoyed all of them.

It is just want I needed to complete my collection. Now I can finish read all of this author books in this series.
