Forrest, Katherine V. The day’s work seemed in the remote past; she had performed her job automatically, her mind skimming over its surface. Would Val be there, would she be in the backyard swimming as she always was? She glimpsed Val, in cutoffs and a white T-shirt, sitting at the top of the three small brick steps that led to her front door. She parked carefully, using the electronic door opener to close the garage behind her. Faintly, shakily, she walked out onto the driveway and to her front door.

Katherine V. Forrest is the groundbreaking author of Curious Wine, the Kate Delafield mystery series and the Daughters science-fiction series. Dozens of lesbian writers count her among their mentors.

An Emergence of Green book. Forrest has a tremendous talent. I cannot wait for her next novel. I started out reading her mysteries and then found her romance books.

An emergence of Green is Carolyn's story - a story of emerging independence, expanding self-awareness, and awakening sexuality. Katherine V.

An Emergence of Green - Katherine V. Forrest. Forrest’s 15 works of fiction are in translation worldwide and include her eight-volume Kate Delafield mystery series, the lesbian classics Curious Wine, Daughters of a Coral Dawn and An Emergence of Green. The third novel, An Emergence of Green extends most directly from Curious Wine in its candid scenes of sexual discovery between the two female characters; but it departs from that novel and other coming-out stories in the immediate identification by all three major characters of what is happening among them.

I've read Forrest "Curious Wine" and loved it despite the lack of character development...but An Emergence of Green more than made up for it. I loved the way Forrest let us inside of all three of the main characters. We get to witness first hand how they perceive themselves and each other. The story flowed. I didn't find it outdated at all. It was great watching Carolyn come into her own. If this book was written after Xena than I'm sure there would have been a lot of Xenaverse references. Val tall dark and strong...Carolyn small and blond. I loved Val's character. She was strong but also vulnerable. Loving Carolyn was not what she wanted in her life...after all she married twice and had a son... all proof that she wasn't a lesbian. Paul, the husband was a Real Jerk...but he was perceptive. He immediately saw Val as a threat...even before the two women knew she was. I always find men and their "Penis Envy" mentality laughable. I won't say much more, but watching the two women discovering how to love each other was amazing. I loved their honesty..."tell me what you're feeling" This book is truly a keeper. I have already started the reread.

I read this 30 years ago when I first came out and loved it; now, not so much. I was very disappointed but I guess I view things differently now.

Katherine captures and holds my attention each time I read one of her books. This early work is a great discovery for me as my preference is to voraciously read everything I can, written by an author I have just discovered. I'll be reading her sci-fi titles next.

I love this book
This author is an obvious man hater. She could have taken the plot line a hundred different directions, but instead chose to make the one man in the story a wife beating, rapist. Like, really?! The whole man hate thing RUINED the book. The main character could have had a life changing experience that forced her to choose love without making her nice guy husband turn psycho...... Bummer.
