Already this pose has slipped, never more so than when I alluded to myself. No, you damn well better not. ss you happen to be within at least a decade of my age, which is seventy-six. I have outlived every doctor who had warned me that I was smoking and drinking myself into a premature grave, and I am a cranky old party. My views are fixed and my bowels are still good. I have twelve of my original teeth, which is pretty fair going, and a lot of expensive bridgework.

After a fallow period, Straub re-emerged in 1988 with Koko, a nonsupernatural (though horrific) Vietnam novel. Koko was followed in the early '90s by the related novels Mystery and The Throat, which together with Koko make up the "Blue Rose Trilogy".

Prince Persie
I purchased this one based on all the solid review and liked it overall. That said, It just seemed that some of the content could have been deleted SPOILER: (detailed induced psychosis for some of the characters). I found my self skipping over parts. I did like the main characters and the story overall - kind of reminded me of a "poor man's" 'IT', even though there are only a few similarities

I enjoyed the read. Borders on creepy, spooky, gross, mysterious, sad, horror...hits all bases. I liked the characters. Straub does a good job of developing his characters and making you feel like you know or could know them. There were times I couldn't put the book down and there were times I left it on purpose. Again, I liked it.

Peter Straub has the same themes - and characters - he repeats from book to book.
His prose style is above average - hence the two stars - but his plots are ridiculous,
full of shark-jumping plot holes, and his characters are caricatures or cliches or both.
When I first read him back in the 80s, I thought his books were cool. Now they
are something I have way outgrown.

A perfect blend of technological horror and the supernatural. As with much of Straub's work, the reader is helplessly drawn into the author's world and taken for a whirlwind thrill ride.

Straub is greater than King. Far more subtle and far, far more frightening. He is a master craftsman and this, Floating Dragon, is a supreme work of high and terrifying art.
Buridora
It reads a bit like Alice and Wonderland in that bizarre and treacherous happenings occur to not one person who fell down a rabbit hole, but to a whole town. Imagine throwing the kitchen sink of terror filled threats - bats, giant vicious dogs, dragons, zombies, worms, spiders, madmen, fires, earthquakes, swarms of flies, you name it - and wrap that up in 600 pages. I guess it may be some peoples cup of tea, but not mine.

This is a great Novel by Peter Straub (though my favorites are Ghost Story, Shadowland and Koko). Normally Peter Straub has a distinct style from Stephen King, but in the case of Floating Dragon, I feel Peter Straub outdoes Stehpen King in a Stephen King like novel.
I enjoyed this book. I had a hard time at first, it kind of went in circles. But I stuck with it, and I absolutely loved it. There is non stop action and scares. I would recommend this book to everyone.
