Book by Short, Luke

Daigami
A fun, old school modern Western. I really quite enjoyed this novel. The book is based on the Uranium Boom in the 50's in the fictitious town of Joash, Utah(Pretty sure it's Moab, Utah).

If you bought this book thinking it is a western, you will be disappointed. The story takes place in the mid 20th century. It is a story about a man that is mining for uranium and all the odds are against him.

Book in great shape and met me expectations

My title comes from the Saturday Evening Post serialization of this novel in 1955. Dave Borthen knew what it might cost him to fight those who had control of the territory, but he was a man who would not quit and give in. That scenario is one which Luke Short used to perfection time and time again in his novels--the loner against great odds. And he does so here again to near perfection. Luke Short is known for his hard hitting, hard driving books with action on page after page, and with just enough romance to keep the hero grounded. Luke Short should not be dismissed as just a writer of "westerns" but of one who knew the land he wrote about and the people, as his works are some of the most authentic of how it really was in the 19th century in the west.

LS has penned a western novel of the early nineteenth century that extends into the future. A geologist finds a mining source for uranium, quits his job and become a miner. He has financial backing but has to the mining claims to prove his claim. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
