In the Italian city of Verona, Juliet's house, now a museum, draws thousands of visitors . This story has never been published in book form.

In the Italian city of Verona, Juliet's house, now a museum, draws thousands of visitors every year, as well as thousands of letters - addressed to Juliet - from nearly every country in the world. This is the story of Juliet, her house, the letters, and of the man who, in the late 1930s, began to answer them. This act of compassion has continued into the new century: today, a staff of 'secretaries to Juliet' translate, archive, and answer 4,000 letters a year. Along with selected letters and replies, historical narrative, and illustrative material, "Letters to Juliet" will be a magical, romantic read, and a great gift.

The enduring legend of Shakespeare’s pair of star-crossed lovers draws millions of visitors to Verona, Italy, each year. But that is just part of the story. Every day, letters, frequently addressed simply, “Juliet, Verona,” arrive in the city. They come by the truckload, in almost every language imaginable, written by romantics seeking Juliet’s counsel. Most of the missives talk of love, of course —love found and love lost, love sought and love remembered. And, amazingly, not one letter goes unanswered. Letters to Juliet tells the story of these letters and the volunteers who have been writing responses for more than seven decades —volunteers who first acted privately, and who are now sanctioned by the city of Verona as part of the Juliet Club . Featuring more than seventy-five heartfelt letters, this poetic book retraces the history behind Shakespeare’s tale and tours the monuments that have fueled the world's enchantment with Juliet and her Romeo.

EXCELLENT BOOK, AS CHARMING AS THE FILM THAT FOLLOWED THE BOOK'S INITIAL PUBLICATION. HOWEVER, DO CHECK THE BOOK ON RECEIPT FOR PRINT RUN ERRORS.

I was initially expecting the story of the movie, but I am delightfully intrigued by this purchase now. A few other comments mentioned a piece of stationary and an envelope, but mine did not come with one. That is honestly the only thing this book is lacking. I love the background information that is provide. I strangely enjoy doing research on this type of thing so the book came in handy. I can also honestly say that I love Verona more than I did before I purchased this book.I am a hopeless romantic so I may actually write to the secretaries of Juliet (just to see the type of response I will get.)
DEAD-SHOT
Great book for any hopeless romantic or a lover of one of Shakespeare's notable play protagonists - Juliet. Great background history of people's written letters to Juliet, declaration, and questioning of the meaning of love...

I loved this book it was very informative about Verona, Italy and I loved learning about the first Secretaries of Juliet. The pictures were beautiful and the letters made me both cry and laugh. I don't cry very often but I could sense the urgency and pleading in the letters. I think writing to juliet even knowing it is not juliet replying but her secretary of the Club De Juliet, it is like being stuck somewhere with a stranger you tend to tell them anything and everything. Because you know you will never see them again. Writing letters to Juliet is a way to talk to someone about your deep feelings and you are better at it because you feel more confidant knowing you will not have to face the person your writing to. The book was lovely I definetly desire to write to Juliet. I recommend this book and I recommend writing to Juliet (Verona, Italy). That is all I have to say I love it, Love it, Love it!!
