My name is Erin and I am 5 years old. This book tells me where the animals got their names and things.

My son wrote the above review. The series of books written by Thornton W. (Thornton Waldo) Burgess are his favorite books at this time. I purchased a Kindle for him so that he could read when he went to bed. The reason that I choose the Kindle Paperwhite is because it has a light so that he can read at night and it has a touch screen so that it is easy for him to access the dictionary feature. He goes to bed around 8:30 PM and is permitted to read for about 1 hour. He reads about 20,000 words in that time, so he finishes one of these books in about 2 nights. He uses the dictionary - the other morning he explained the meaning of "gullible" for me. I presume that he encountered the word the previous night and utilized the dictionary feature to learn the meaning.

Although I have not read the books myself, based on my son's comments to me about the stories, the series by Thornton Burgess are entertaining and contain good moral lessons for young children.

Great books - some of my absolute favorites. Whoever put the books together did a poor job of copying over the text (frequently find myself correcting typos in mid-read), but it's an excellent collection of tales at an attractive price, that would be a 5-star buy if they just hired a professional copy-editor to go through and fix the little "oopsies" that are peppered throughout.

Great five minute stories that I remember reading as a kid and now I can start reading them to my daughter. Simple and easy to understand, many of the stories teach lessons about morals, instead of mindless blather. I am enjoying reading through the series again.

While talking to one of my oldest friends (we met when we were eight years old and are now in our 60s), she mentioned the Mother West Wind books. As soon as we hung up, I came to Amazon and found several, choosing the one I am reviewing. It's a gift for her, so I can't really review it, as I didn't read it BUT I know that it's going to bring a big smile to her face...and doesn't that just make it a five star product? Thanks, Amazon...I have found everything from all my old favorite rock and roll songs in MP3 (and sometimes 45RPM) format, to old books to any other thing you can name at your website...I'm so glad you're here!

Thornton Burgess wrote these books about 1912 but I can assure you that they are the greatest books to start children out with, and to bring you as well to a simpler time when 'Merry Little Breezes' chatter to the animales that all talked to one another and got along very, very well. If you have the nack to read these books properly, you will be delighted in what you see in the light in the eyes of your tiny tot audience. Children and Elders alike. So very wholesome and non-confrontaitonal. Get the whole seriees. There are many.

I found these books at my grandmother's house. My grandmother bought them for my mom when she was a kid. I read them over and over. Small green, hard cover books, smelling that old book smell. Well, my grandmother passed away and I lived too far away so other family members threw out these books. So when I saw Amazon selling these books, I wanted to read them again so I bought all that they had. They read just as great as when I was a kid.
I loved this book. I had borrowed it from a friend when I was a little girl and it was wonderful to have a chance to share the stories with my children.
However watch which edition you order. Flying Chipmunk Publishing Co. is good but there is a cheep version out there where the print is so small it is impossible to read and they took out the index and the publishing information. It is actually illegal to sell a book that does not have the publisher on the title page Check the publisher before you order.
