This is a story of a child who died in the womb, a child who was lost and a child far away over the seas. It is a love story. Of sorts. Sara is the poignant story of a woman in her thirties, half Irish, half English, who has inherited a family farm in the Irish midlands. Sara's life is dominated by her longing for a child. This leads to strains within her marriage to the local Church of Ireland vicar, Luke. When Luke accompanies a young parishioner to England to have an abortion, Sara feels betrayed. When her best friend, Harriet, is given a child to adopt she feels isolated and wretched. No one seems to understand what she is going through except Charles her doctor friend. Then came the phone call from Ecuador. There may be a chance for them to adopt a little boy. Luke and Sara fly out to South America and begin a love story - and a long agonising battle to bring Oliver home. Sara is tender, funny and haunting. Quite unforgettable.
