So good it was hard to put down. I lost some sleep on this one.
This is the second book of his that I have read. I have no clue as to how this author was such a prolific writer. I have ordered four more of his books.
Like some of the reviews have stated, you don’t have to have any interest in horses or horse raising to enjoy his books.
It have heard the saying that it’s best to write what you know. This is exactly what Francis has done with a riveting plot that keeps you guessing what will happen next.
You can never really see where the ending is going.

This book is a page turner from page one.
It kept me wanting to read what happens next.
The Author writes well and interested in all the characters.

My favorite Dick Francis books because of the descriptions of all the gadgets the hero's brother left. The learning curve he undergoes is fun. The other characters are well depicted. As usual the horse racing side of the story is well done.
Delirium
Most delicious exploration into the world of gems and precious stones by way of an older brother's unexpected death. A brilliant security obsessed man leaves his brother everything including love and missing sparkles.

Well now, this was a very compelling story with a lot of twists and turns! I very much enjoyed the romp Dick Francis took me on with this story. The older brother vs younger brother is a universal dynamic (I'm guessing), and I think their being so different helped the storyline. At any rate, I found it a bit stressful to have Derek Franklin seemingly falling into so much s***, aka trouble, based on the previous activities of this older brother, who was accidentally killed. I also liked that Derek wondered a fair bit about who Greville really was and how well they actually knew each other. At any rate, this was a first time for me reading this genre (other than Tony Hillerman) and I have to say, I loved it!

I really like the books by Dick Francis, they have mystery, and some romance. The mysteries aren't gory, and the romance is not the "bodice ripper" type. I like the romance to be a little subtle, as I have an imagination, and don't want a lot of graphic detail. It isn't necessary. This is a good book, and keeps your attention all the way through.
Brightfury
Straightforward mystery, easy to follow with interesting foray into the gem world. The opposing horse trainer character wasn't fully developed until the very end but that was part of the mystery. Since the actual villain had no character it was good to give him orange hair in order to keep track of him.
As a long-time fan of Dick Francis' horse racing mysteries, I must say that this one is one of my favorites. The contrast between brothers' careers and lifestyles makes fascinating reading as the world of gemstones is revealed. The basic premise of the story is how the protagonist becomes better acquainted with his brother after his brother's death, in both his business and personal life. A terrific read as always. My paperback copy fell apart from overuse so I had to put it on my Kindle Fire for posterity!
