This is my first Lesley Lokko book and I was expecting to be wowed, but wasn't. The blurb on the back of the book talks about two half-sisters falling in love with the same guy. That didn't happen.

It has been so long since i ve been reading such a lengthy book and to read it within the span of 4 days served an indication just how amazing the book is to me. I bought this book late last year and.

Spanning five decades, SAFFRON SKIES is a magnificent story of sisters, friends, families and love. MAX SALL, powerful, wealthy and utterly ruthless, a man without a past. His wife, ANGELA, a society debutante who fell in love with the dark, handsome stranger, and broke her parents' hearts when she married him. St. Martin's Griffin. From Lesley Lokko, an outstanding new voice in women's fiction, comes a story of family, love, grief, and power. In this sweeping family saga, Amber Sall has the world on a platter--everything a girl could ever want. She has a handsome, powerbroker father, an older brother she adores, scads of money, and two best friends, Becky and Madeline.

Rich Girl, Poor Girl. In memory of Charles. Grateful thanks are due to a number of people whom I never actually met during the writing of this novel but whose works were both inspiring and insightful.

This book is really boring. I'm 200 pages in and I have not seen any excitement. I'm bored....I'm unimpressed....It's like a boring reality show. This is why reality shows are scripted.Seriously. I'm trying so hard to stay interested. I'm tired of reading about to the rich smart pretty girls struggling through life. I feel no connection towards any of the characters. I can't even picture them in my mind. They're faceless. How is this possible at chapter 44? I'm going to keep on trucking but seriously there needs to be SOME sort of plot that develops. It's like once something semi exciting happens, the chapter ends and the next chapter starts with another character and the semi-exciting thing is barely mentioned again. (Cough Angela Cough)

This is my first Lesley Lokko book and I was expecting to be wowed, but wasn't. The blurb on the back of the book talks about two half-sisters falling in love with the same guy. That didn't happen. Instead the book focused on Amber, Becky, Madeline, and Amber's family members.

A lot happened in this book that was definitely out of the ordinary. It's not a light fluffy read, so be prepared for heavy material, some thought provoking, and some that may disgust you. I have to hand it to Lesley, she sure doesn't pull her punches.

Now that I know somewhat to expect, I won't be so surprised the next time I pick up a book by Lesley Lokko.
