Stranger at the Crossroads book. Stranger at the Crossroads. This was a well written love inspired romance and I liked the way this dimension was incorporated in the story, not overwhelming it.

Stranger at the Crossroads book. The characters are loveable, both of them with heavy past traumas, but strong enough to overcome them. I think that the instant attraction was well developed; I liked the setting, with all the animals involved. Aug 21, 2016 Jocelyn Montalvo Cullum marked it as to-read.

Jackson and Darcy had some real big issues that kept them from healing or ever loving again, so they thought. Though Darcy had been able to maintain her faith, the guilt Jackson carried with him caused him to lose his faith. Then one night, they met when a horse needed them...

This book was good. The dialogue was nice, though Jackson seemed a bit cruel at times. Darcy's hurt was much worse than Jackson's could ever be, but Jackson seemed to be the one who was bitter and suffering.

The entire book took place in about a week. That's my biggest issue with this book. By the end the couple were madly in love and ready to marry. I was a bit uncomfortable with that...I think they needed to date for awhile to see if it really was love, or just mutual attraction and some sort of bonding because they both had a hurt the other could heal.

There were two pretty steamy kisses in this. Though I'm not sure I really saw anything terribly wrong with them, I do think they sat a bad example for our younger readers. In one of the kisses, there seemed to be a tongue involved, which led me to believe the kisses were sensual, not emotional...In real life, these kisses could have led to other things.

The scene that led to the first kiss is a bit questionable. Though I understood the emotional impact the author was causing to happen, I think there could have been a better way of making it happen. I won't go into detail, but the scene, though totally innocent, had Jackson in the bathroom when Darcy was in the shower, and part of him was INSIDE the shower with her. No kidding! That led immediately (or as soon as she could throw on a robe and follow him out of the bathroom) to their first steamy kiss...

Still, this book gets four stars because it's a matter of interpretation. The family history/drama was also very good. I really liked the mother and sisters and cannot wait to hear the other brothers' stories! I thought the author did a good job setting up the story, even though they DID have to fall in love in week...

This story was disappointing overall. Although it starts out well and some of the events are interesting, I found the character development much too shallow. Sensuality and "sexual tension" occurs much too early in the relationship, before the protagonists develop any kind of friendship or communication. Both protagonists seem to be a pushovers for any kind of sensuality, the heroine is too blase' about the hero's bad attitudes and the hero never does change his attitudes much so, when they decide to marry at the book's conclusion it doesn't seem believable. They may be "in lust" but, their relationship has no depth and precious little foundation , so it doesn't seem like real love to the reader. Also, the heroine lets the 'hero' get by without ever speaking of his own inner struggles. He never seemed lovable to me at all so, I feel she's foolish for falling for him, especially so quickly. This is definitely fiction, but NOT good inspirational fiction.

Dalton's Book 3 in the McMahan brother series (Long Way Home) is a MUCH better inspirational read.

Healing hearts is what it takes to get Darcy Hart and Jackson McMahan past the tragedies in their lives. When these two first meet the sparks fly! But Jackson must rely upon Darcy for veterinarian help with a horse he has stolen from a neighbor.....a selfless cause that gets them on their way to healing. Also meet the other McMahan brothers; Clint whose story it to be told in 'Midnight Faith' coming out in Oct. 2002 and Monte's story to come later.

I would not recommend this book to anyone, because the use of sensual or passionate language was a hint of a bathroom scene and then them kissing for the first time with her wearing nothing but a bathrobe. I just couldn't finish it. I think that though it might be a nice book for some readers, it is not as clean as I have come to expect religious romance to be and therefore I was disappointed.
