Although Marion Chesney liked to refer to the supernatural and superstitions in her books, she seldom utilized a full-fledged ghost. This was probably the only one I've read by her that had a ghost as the main character. I don't know if intercrossing Regency romance with ghosts was the "in" thing back in the day - I believe Sandra Heath also liked to have ghostly interactions in her plots. I thought the premise was interesting - Alice is a scullery maid who looks to the ghost of the deceased Eighth Duke of Haversham to rescue her from her plight along the wa.

I have to self disclose by revealing that I am a die hard Marian Chesney fan, i.e. she pretty much can do no wrong in my eyes. Taken in context with all of her other books in this genre this one was quite interesting. The first time I have seen her delve into the area of the supernatural, and with surprising results. The plot is the same as always beautiful but eccentric young lady, with some sort of confounding circumstances, finds love, and money, in the end. I tend to like her "series" plots and this one is a stand alone, but still excellent for all that.

This series was acceptable as light fiction. The author has perhaps improved with experience, but I purchased this entire series on sale and while it was fairly well entertaining, it was extremely light reading. There is a sameness to her heroines when you read the entire set. She is not a bad author, just perhaps lacking in polish.
This title was much more imaginative than most of the other books in this series.

I loved this story. It was humorous, and the author sort of invented her own rules for ghosts rather than following centuries of classic ghost fiction. There was a damsel in distress, the ton, an interesting side character, bullying bad guys who get their comeuppance, and even a little action; all in all it was a delightful read.

Old stories written by dead authors, new stories written by authors still alive, can be just as good to read today as they were when written. Reading about Regency England is my favorite time period to enjoy. I picked this story because the author's style of storytelling matches my reading interest level. An easy story for an easy read.

The story line was great it ha s humor and a lot of different.t character. Very interesting story line. All the characters were well developed and very believable. A ghost who could go thru walls and take people with him. Wonderful.

What a romantic story! All of my comments would be spoilers, so I'll just agree with most of the reviewers that this is a very enjoyable read.
