Dame Catherine Ann Cookson, DBE (née McMullen; 27 June 1906 – 11 June 1998) was a British author.

Dame Catherine Ann Cookson, DBE (née McMullen; 27 June 1906 – 11 June 1998) was a British author. She is in the top 20 of most widely read British novelists with sales topping 100 million, while retaining a relatively low profile in the world of celebrity writers. Her books were inspired by her deprived youth in South Tyneside, North East England, the setting for her novels.

Catherine Cookson was born in Tyne Dock, the illegitimate daughter of a poverty-stricken woman, Kate, who Catherine believed was her older sister. Catherine began work in service but eventually moved south to Hastings, where she met and married Tom Cookson, a local grammar-school master.

Two Catherine Cookson novels in one volume. In The Garment, a woman faces up to the fact that her marriage is a sham and will never bring her the fulfilment she desperately needs.

The Catherine Cookson Story. Catherine Cookson’s Books.

Motherhood is every woman's right and the natural outcome of a happy marriage.

Grace Rouse tried in vain to love her husband but found she could not. Looking for love elsewhere, she found herself torn between a man who could give her children and a man who passionately desired children but could only give them his name.

Captain America
I have to be honest and say that this would not be one of my favourite books by Catherine Cookson. It was, for me, as if it had been written by someone else. I persevered with the story until the end, but it was not, as far as I was concerned, the usual wonderful tale of the other many books of hers that I have read , many times over, in the past.

As always there is nothng more to say about a Catherine Cookson novel. Every one of her books I have read (and there are over 50) has kept me on the edge of my seat. The only complaint I have with her novel is that I can't get anything done at home because I can't put her books down until I have finished reading them. This includes standing with my Kindle in the grocery aisle. Charlotte Buelow

As are good and entertaining books of fiction there often occur plots with in the main plot. This was true in this Cookson novel, however, I for some unexplained reason, felt that this literary effort was a notch or two above Cookson's usually entertaining and intriguing run of the mill stories.
Xtani
Another good one by Cookson.
Rainbearer
This was a very involved book. It kept my interest through the whole journey. She has a vivid imagination. Amen

Catherine Cookson is my favourite Author, she writes about life and brings the Characters to life, so much so, that you cannot put her books down. Highly recommend this read to.
