They worked until midnight. Fraser saw Catherine to the door, and Talmadge was waiting outside to drive her back to the apartment. She thought about Fraser all the way home. The fall of France had affected Americans more deeply than the other swift-moving events in Europe, for they felt a sense of personal violation, a loss of liberty in a country that was one of the cradles of Liberty. Norway had fallen, England was fighting for its life in the battle of Britain and a pact had been signed between Germany, Italy and Japan. There was a growing feeling of inevitability that America was going to get into the war. Catherine asked Fraser about it one day.

Gripping plot till the end but the climax was hastily ended. Except for the last chapter, the whole book demands a go. Like.

One of the best novels I have ever read. It could be compared to the Count of Monte Cristo. Elegant and brilliant, well designed with savvy character development. An epic tale of revenge with many surprises. Suspenseful with a shocking ending.
I read this book many years ago and didn't remember the story line but remember I loved it so i bought it again. Sydney Sheldon is a superb author and the book was a great read and re-reading it brought back why I loved it so much. He wrote the characters separately in each chapter and then brought them together in the end of the book. Very suspenseful and a great book that keeps you reading and not wanting you to put it down.
Best book ever. I love Sidney Sheldon and this one is my favorite
Swift Summer
I always wanted to read the book ever since I saw the movie in the 70's with my mom! Didn't quite get all that was happening then but I knew it was a sexy movie! Needless to say the book was great. There were some WWII facts I didn't know. This was a wonderful but sad story of love, unrequited love and hate. I highly recommend.
This is my favorite author. This was purchased to help complete my collection.
I read this book the first time back in the mid 70s. I had completely forgotten what it was about but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Revenge is best served slowly. Awesome twists, good writing. But you can't go wrong with Sidney Sheldon.
Great, Great Book.
The twists and turns of suspense! Sydney Sheldon does not disappoint. His characters are twisted and the plot keeps you on the edge of your seat.
