This is a first novel by Oxford author Mary Cavanagh, and it is excellent. Much of the book is told as a first person narrative by Joe, and this is a great success – his love for Anna and for his children, his ambivalent feelings about his family and background, his hatred for his father-in-law, his intensely physical nature, sometimes pulling counter to his sensitivity and intellect, are all captured with salty, grounded detail.
I have also published a self-help text book guide for authors, A Seriously Useful Authors Guide to Marketing and Publicising Books (Troubador 2009). In addition I have contributed to three anthologies compiled by OxPens, The Sixpenny Debt, The Lost College and The Bodleian Murders. I also belong to Writers In Oxford and Abingdon Writers.
As a ‘Baby Boomer’, Mary Cavanagh has lived through the most profound social and moral changes known to social history. A Man Like Any Other is born out of her observations and experiences, her fascination with the strange and secret life that is lived within the mind, and man’s battle with close relationships. She is the author of The Crowded Bed (Transita, 2007).

Mary Cavanagh is a spellbinding storyteller. - Amanda Stock, Daily Information, Oxford. Written with great conviction and style, this is a worthy successor to The Crowded Be.
