I honestly could not get past the first page. The translation is so bad, my first semester Spanish students could write better in Spanish if I asked them to. I'm pretty sure this was run through an auto-translation program which is beyond evident. Luckily Amazon was excellent and gave me a full refund. Please do not buy this book.

"On the eve of my journey night after the evening, came into my room one of my sisters, and without saying a word loving, because the voice sobs embargoed, cut a hair of my head: when he left, had rolled some tears for my own neck."

Word for word from the second paragraph in the book.
DO NOT BUY the print-on-demand (fact undisclosed) book whose cover has a drawing of a young women's face with three white flowers in her hair. This book looks like it has been automatically translated - word for word from the Spanish, many phrases and paragraphs just do not make any sense in English. See additional comment below regarding fraudulent aspect: it is NOT the advertised 1890 translation of Rollo Ogden, easily checked against a genuine edition. Amazon should NOT sell such fraudulent books. I have asked for (and received) a refund.
We have loved the Von Trapp Family for years and read about parts of their life, knowing Maria had a great part in their story. I heard the family sing in the '50's at a small college here in my neighborhood and remember their quaint costumes and unusual songs. Wanting to read more of Maria's story I searced on Amazzon. What a joy to read the book. It came in great condition in a shorter length of time than expected. It's a story for everybody and you will be surprised at Maria's beginnings as a school girl! What a hoot! And what a delight to read "the rest of the story!"
Terrible translation! Completely unreadable. The original Spanish version would make more sense to an English reader than this unproofed, unedited abomination.
An essential book for those who love the "Sound of Music." Here, you can read the true story by Maria herself. While a bit different from the movie, it's still a fascinating story of their life and travails. Very inspirational.
This book is translated from spanish to english very poorly. I would recommend reading in spanish. Don't bother with this book!
Lovely, lovely back story to the musical we all know and love.
The pages of this book were brittle and yellowed. I did not feel OK about giving it as a gift. It was advertised in GOOD condition but was so old the pages are coming loose.
