Details (if other): Cancel. Thanks for telling us about the problem. The Fire Club: A dangerously humorous journey into the brotherhood of firefighters. by. Michael R. Jasperson.

The reason I recommend this book is because of what it's not. The Fire Club is NOT a story about firefighters, written by a writer who interviewed some firefighters. The Fire Club is an adventure written by a real, articulate firefighter passionate about his craft. The Fire Club is based on real emergency incidents and firehouse antics.

Cole Walker finally realizes his life-long dream when he is promoted to fire captain. Ironically, Walker has never worked in a firehouse. His entire career has been safely sheltered behind a desk in headquarters. Walker’s book-smarts do not prepare him for turbulent firehouse life and the vivid horrors of his dangerous profession. Rookie Captain Cole Walker must lead four rebellious firefighters through predicaments he’d never experienced before. In his cathartic journey to prove himself as a worthy ‘field captain’ Walker discovers he must fight more than fire. His firefighters despise him for assuming their veteran captain’s position. His crew quarrel and torment him with vicious pranks. A rival captain, a narcissistic fire chief, and a vindictive small town mayor vie for control of the firehouse using Walker as fodder, while a mirthful young coed from the Ladies Auxiliary sparks a contentious rivalry. Amid the onslaught of station pranks and public humilitation, Walker and crew are deluged with deadly fires and agonizing rescues. Walker must master his own emotions to help his crew survive the volatile incidents that assail them from both inside and outside the firehouse while making decisions that could easily kill himself and his crew.

This book was a gift to mye by my father a retired LA County Firefighter. Some of the stories in this book were verified and known department wide. I even was abe to contact the author and haave a response to some of my questions. I did not want to put the book down. For anyone in the profession or if you just wanat a glimpse of the fire service i would highly recommend this book.

The calls reflect the real life adventures of this retired fireman...but the pranks were un-realistic and would have gotten several people fired. And just try to tell me that you can put on your turn-out without noticing women's panties on the turn-out pants. Total garbage and hurt what otherwise would have been a decent book.

I enjoyed the book immensely. As a retired firefighter it was like a window back into the firehouse. Jasperson is an excellent writer and it is obvious that he spent many years on the job. Hope to see more from him in the future.

I'm a retired fire captain and was glad to see how typical the accounts were presented. This book brought back many good, and bad, memories. Well done and very authentic.
