Pan American World Airways: Images of a Great Airline. James Patrick Baldwin. A great read with a unique twist; this book chronicles the history of Pan American World Airways with a collection of stories from the people who worked for the airline. From pilots to ground crew to stewardesses, and station managers, the book tells the story of the rise and fall of what could safely be termed the worlds best airline at the time. Beginning with the flying boats and ending with the 747 jumbo jet, the book is difficult to put down; I found myself just wanting to keep on reading.

Two Book Set. Pan American World Airways - Images of a Great Airlines gives the historic timeline and representative images. Pan Am - Personal Tributes to a Global Aviation Pioneer gives the stories.

Pan American Word Airways: Images of A Great Airline, by James Patrick Baldwin (2018). Now as a Kindle, this book makes a very fitting companion volume to Baldwin and Kriendler's Pan American World Airways: Aviation History Through the Words of Its People. It provides the reader with both history and images of memorabilia that greatly enhance the reading experience. Another terrific companion book is a 2017 publication in celebration of Pan Am's 90th Anniversary, compiled by Jeff Kriendler and Jamie Baldwin: Pan Am - Personal Tributes to a Global Aviation Pioneer.

Pan American World Airways, In. an American Airbus A310-222. The company was incorporated in 1927 by a former World War I naval aviator, Juan Terry Trippe, who secured a contract to fly mail between Key West, Fl. The airline’s first passenger service-between these cities-began the next year. One of the employee pilots and a surveyor of new routes was Charles A. Lindbergh.

"...a carefully constructed timeline of Pan Am's incredible record of fi rsts and aviation achievements... chock full of rare and nostalgic collector's memorabilia... a veritable time capsule into which any reader may be gently transported...back to a time when fl ying was gracious, glamorous and eagerly anticipated by passengers and crew alike!" - Susanne (Strickland) Malm, Flight Attendant, JFK, 1968-1978 "With Pan American World Airways - Images of a Great Airline, author Jamie Baldwin has given us a treasure trove of Pan Am lore. Here is something for everyone - a concise history of the pioneering airline, a rich potpourri of Pan Am memorabilia, and, best of all, a nostalgic journey back to an age when the mighty Pan American ruled the skies." - Robert Gandt, Pan Am pilot 1965-1991, author of Skygods: The Fall of Pan Am and China Clipper "...a fine chronology of Pan Am's pioneering history, with wonderful pictures to match - valuable to student or aviation afi cionado alike, and browsing will bring back fond memories for employees or passengers, of air travel Pan Am style..." -Pete Runnette, President, Pan Am Historical Foundation "An interesting presentation of Pan Am's colorful history and the leadership role it played in the development of international air transportation." - Charlie Trippe "No history of international aviation can be complete without including the amazing story of Pan American Airways. Pan Am was without doubt the industry's leader for several decades; more than just another airline. Jamie Baldwin's fascinating collection of photographs and chronology captures the story of Pan Am brilliantly, from the early days, thru the glory years to the sad end. It is a story well worth telling." - Barry Humphreys, Chairman, British Air Transport Association and previously a Director of Virgin Atlantic Airways

Wonderful, historical pictorial of a great airline. Unique photographs and images that aren't available elsewhere.

If you ever flew Pan Am or are a fan of travel in its more civilized incarnation, this is a must-get!

This is a book that I really tried to like. I think the problem may be how much can be done and still keep a limited interest book at the proper price point. Unfortunately, printing design and publication costs seen to have worked against the book. Far too many pictures have already been seen in other sources with higher print quality. The schedules and maps are interesting. But they are so small in format that a library quality magnifying glass is required. Even then, reading them requires great patience. If a second edition is contemplated I'd recommend dropping the multitude of baggage tags, that might possibly offer room for larger format for the maps and selections from the schedules. What's to like? Not much except for the historical timelines and those are interesting.

My father in law just turned 90 and I couldn't think of anything to give him. After thinking about all his favorite conversations, I found this book and took a chance. He absolutely loved it and I was so pleased that he'll enjoy looking through it again and again.

This book is filled with dates of the various time lines that Pan Am went through. It has lots of pictures of the different airplanes in Pan Am;s history. Pictures of various flight tickets to lots of different countries Pan Am flew to. Even shows a map of the different flight plant. Good reading.
