More by Joseph T. Contracts, Specifications & Law for Engineers. I read this book as a contractor seeking to modify my standard contract to that which would apply to architects and engineers as sub-contractors. Joseph T. Bockrath, Clarence W. Dunham, Robert D. Young. This book clearly introduces every aspect of contracts, and amplifies the reasoning behind these aspects using cases and examples. This book is only for those who wish to study and apply these concepts. It has no "templates" or boilerplate contracts.

The seventh edition of Contracts and the Legal Environment for Engineers and Architects has been written for students in the engineering and architecture fields to teach the basic principles of the law and a ready reference for practicing design professionals. This edition has been completely updated in recognition of the dynamic changes in the law in recent years.

The text has been entirely reordered and several new chapters and chapter sections have been added. The material in this seventh edition has been reorganized and expanded into seven parts: Part One: Basic principles of the law and court systems in both the United States and globally. Part Two: Basic principles of contracts. Part Three: Relationships of individuals and society focusing upon such areas as agency, partnerships, corporations, insurance and governmental regulations. Part Four: Basic principles of tort law including concepts of negligence and product liability. Part Five: Basic principles of property ranging from real property to intellectual property. Part Six: Impact to the daily practice of a design professional involved in a construction project. Part Seven: The role of the design professional in litigation.

One of my professors put this on his book list for a project management course because it provides a relatively concise and accessible exposition of introductory contract law. Relatively.
If horrible writing and the incessant dull thud of pedantry make you think, "Goldang, these folks is smart," you will find this work impressive. If you have yet to concede that cogency and salience are incompatible with scholarship, you will find this book to be fully half as bad as the average text written by the average team of thundering dumkopfs in mortar boards; thus two stars instead of one.

I completed Contract Law in Law School several years ago, although I am not an attorney. I am approximately 1/2 way through the textbook, presently reading the Law of Torts, which I also completed in Law School. This book is straightforward without a lot of 'boring court study cases' (cases are cited as reference for further study is the reader desire to do so) which makes it easy to read and understand. The issues and decisions are briefly explained, which is to the reader's benefit. Please note that I did find a few typos as I studied the text. It is an excellent book on the Law of Contracts and Torts, and for me is a great refresher course.
