High temperature superconductors have potential applications in the field of microwave devices and circuits. Experimental test setups were designed to measure the direct current and microwave characteristics of the high temperature superconductors and devices. To utilize these materials in such a way as to increase the efficiency of these microwave devices would be beneficial for high efficiency/low noise applications. A high temperature superconducting microwave resonator structure was fabricated and compared with a similar non-superconducting resonator structure.

High-temperature superconductors produced by sintering consist of anisotropic grains. High-temperature superconductors produced by sintering consist of anisotropic grains. The response of such a granular superconductor to a weak magnetic field is determined by the diamagnetic response of the superconducting grains and the pinning of Josephson vortices which form along grain boundaries, producing an intergranular field.

This proceedings investigates the relationship between features at the atomic level including oxygen vacancies, stacking faults and site order/disorder, grain boundaries, film-substrate interactions, buffer-superconductor interactions, thermodynamic, transport, and other macroscopic properties. This proceedings will also cover fundamental material properties studies, new growth methods, device and materials integration research, and developments in designing and growing new materials, all involving epitaxial superconducting thin films.
