Series: Math in Focus: Singapore Math. Hardcover: 398 pages. We actually did first grade through both first and second grade and on my daughter's end of the year standardized testing she scored the highest scores in math that's possible.

Series: Math in Focus: Singapore Math. I would also recommend using Khan Academy, which is a free online tutorial for Math and other subjects to help reinforce items your child has a hard time with.

Math from Singapore gained international attention as Singapore’s 4th and 8th grade students topped all others in the international TIMSS tests conducted in 1995, 1999 and 2003. Singapore’s students placed in the top three nations in the 2007 and 2011 TIMSS. I’ve taken the Teacher’s Guide page so you can see the original teacher-directed portion of the lesson skips over the concrete: The lesson starts with

Math in Focus is presented as a more polished product than Singapore Math. I suspect that Math in Focus will quickly become a very popular option among homeschoolers.

Math in Focus (K-8) was developed by Great Source (a division of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) in conjunction with Marshall Cavendish (the original publisher in Singapore).

Math in Focus presents the Singapore approach to math in a way that is easy to use and understand.

Singapore math (or Singapore maths in British English) is a teaching method based on the national mathematics curriculum used for kindergarten through sixth grade in Singapore. The term was coined in the United States to describe an approach originally developed in Singapore to teach students to learn and master fewer mathematical concepts at greater detail as well as having them learn these concepts using a three-step learning process: concrete, pictorial, and abstract.

Singapore Math from Grade 1 to Grade 6 (Videos and Worksheets). Helping Parents Explain Singapore Math - Word Problems 1 Demo for parents and educators on how to use "thinking blocks" (block diagrams) to help even young children - 1st grade, 2nd grade - understand, model and solve word problems. I homeschool my daughter and have been using the Math in Focus Curriculum for the last two years. My daughter is pretty advanced and a fast paced learner when it comes to Math, however, these books, are challenging enough even for her. Judging by the materials my son brings home from public school this curriculum is very advanced verses public school systems in my state. The workbook, in which this review is about (since I got a bit off track) fits in perfectly with the curriculum and gives plenty of practice items and if I'm not mistaken an end of the semester quiz/test at the end to make sure that everything did stick. Our homeschool approach with the workbooks is to only do a couple of exercises on items she excels at and then take more time on the things that don't stick as well for her. I would highly recommend this for any homeschool family out there or even a public school who wants a more challenging and advanced curriculum. We actually did first grade through both first and second grade and on my daughter's end of the year standardized testing she scored the highest scores in math that's possible. I would also recommend using Khan Academy, which is a free online tutorial for Math and other subjects to help reinforce items your child has a hard time with.

My children's school uses this curriculum so I'm grateful that I was able to buy a copy for home. I am able to see what they are learning and help them without confusing them because it's the same book.

I like the program it is very challenging. My school did a research on five programs accepted by common core and this came out to be the most challenging. I am glad.

I use these 'Math in Focus' workbooks for summer math tutoring for my kids. The Assessment book (in particular) is good to use to measure mastery of objectives. (basically a test book)

My daughter has tried Saxon K and 1, enVision 1, and many supplemental math books. We've probably bought some teachers on TpT a meal or two. And nothing truly "clicked" with her. She is extremely bright, so this was very frustrating for her. I didn't want her to give up on math so early, just because she couldn't "get it" as easy as she got everything else. THIS is super easy, uses lots of pictures to teach the lessons (and pictures that are RELEVANT to the material, not just clowns to distract!) and builds smoothly. Not overly repetitive, either! I highly rec. this product! The best part? She asks every day to do her math. I am EXCITED!
Excellent and helpful
