As an asian, I learned math the way most Asians do - drill, drill, drill. I have been teaching my first grader all different math concepts in this same way and can tell it is not always fun for him. This workbook has the drill component to it but he also looks forward to the puzzle part as he us working through the problems. It keeps him more focused on finishing. The problems, however, are lengthy and slightly voluminous (which appears necessary, so as to make the picture in the puzzle less obvious) and may not be the best practice for kids with short attention spans. But my kid has good focus so it works out well for us. If I saw more of these books I would buy more.

Great idea, but could be improved. My daughter did a few pages, which were fun at first, but it didn't hold it's interest because there are only a few colors needed for each page. The shape is also easy to see so it's not much as a "surprise" to find the picture from solving the problems and coloring.
