X-Factor, Vol. 15 book. You would think that with a story called "They Keep Killing Madrox" you would get to focus on the rest of the team, but it's quite the opposite. Emanuela Lupacchino's artwork did not help me get excited about this collection. Basically Madrox died and is stuck in alternate realities, and everytime he dies he jumps from one reality to the next. Bunch of stuff happens that I wont spoil for you.

Shortly after David's tenure on the book ended, Forge, a former government weapons contractor whose mutant powers were his brilliant engineering skills, was added to the group; first replacing Cooper as their liaison after she had been compromised by one of Magneto's Acolytes, and later as an active member. Cooper later becomes an active member as well, her marksmanship and athletic skills compensating for her lack of superhuman powers.

X-Factor as a series is a brilliant mix superhoic plots mixed with old-fashioned noir storytelling and garnished with touches of philosophy and humor. Madrox has seemingly died and is shunted through various parallel universes unsure if he is even himself. Each time a new bad guy kills him, Madrox awakens to a new reality.

While Madrox is out, Wolverine brings in some assistant leadership: Havok and Polaris. This will be an issue to watch for both X-Factor fans and X-Men fans. Wolverine's appearance seems to have shifted the series trajectory. Before these issues the happenings of the X-Men rarely impacted X-Factor. This episode suggests the two New York based teams will be sharing more plotlines in the future. Time will tell how successful and to what degree these titles begin to cross-pollenate...

As far as this graphic novel goes, however, I was pleased with both the writing and the artwork. Writer Peter David has a gift: a set of issues taking place in a myriad of alternate earths with a significant portion of the main character's lines delivered by way of inner dialog--in a lesser author's hands this combination could have dreadful. As it is Madrox's fundamental uncertainty about who the real Madrox is carries the introspective dialog. Moreover each alternate earth is brief--no sprawling Apocalypse style backstory to get bogged down in. Plus David always works some genuinely funny moments into the text (I chortled heartily at the nature of Longshot and Dazzler's relationship).

Artist Emanuella Lupacchino also does a fine job the X-Factor team. The faces in the conversation between Wolverine and Layla were perfect. The concern, sympathy, and raw emotion are evident in the characters' eyes.

X-fans who haven't been reading x-factor may want to take note that this novel seems to note a new relationship between Marvel's New York teams. X-Factor fans, I believe, will be pleased confident storytelling and artwork between these pages.

This novel picks up where X-Factor: Super Unnatural (X-Factor (Graphic Novels)) leaves off. Continue folling the story in X-Factor - Volume 16: Together Again For The First Time (X-Factor (Graphic Novels))

X-Factor has been one of my favorite books since Marvel's pre-Civil War era, and this book proves why, the characters, the continuity...everything. Peter David is one of the most intelligent writers in any area of creative writing. and this is coming from a man with a Deadpool tattoo. Madroxs' symbol will be my next. Any fan of poignant, goofy, intelligent, and irreverent writing will love this, and any other book written by this man.

Short and sweet, this series continues a fantastic run. Buy it. Buy the rest of the series. Buy the previous run through the X-Factor Visionaries series. And enjoy.
