The art of Vaughn Bode occupies a unique niche in the world of underground comics, being embraced by both the hippie counterculture of the 1960s as well as the hip hop community of the 1990s. The eleventh and final part of Fantagraphics' acclaimed Bode Library focuses on Bode's introspective, personal stories.

Schizophrenia (The Bode Library).

Presented in a smaller, more intimate format than earlier volumes, it will reprint his long out-of-print early caveman masterpiece "The Man," as well as the autobiographical title strip "Schizophrenia" (in full color for the first time anywhere, shot from the original art!), plus a wealth of rare and hard-to-find illustrations, strips, and other goodies-including at least. Schizophrenia (The Bode Library).

Blessed with an original, full-color wraparound cover by Vaughn Bodé (one of his last completed works), augmented with a long introduction by Bodé expert and Paper Magazine contributor Carlo McCormick that explores the legacies of both Bodé and Oz creator L. Frank Baum, as well as with a sketchbook of Mark's preparatory work for this ambitious book.

I don't care for the small format of this book but it collects some of the works (including strange autobiographical writings) of 20th-Century underground comix art genius Vaughn Bode. This book is in fact a ride to the land inside of Vaughn Bode's obsessive, neurotic, one might even say bizarre, mind. But best of all it reprints in a more permanent than comic-book format Bode's mid-1960s existential masterpiece _The Man_, one of the highlights of Bode's substantial and significant lifetime oeuvre.

For fans of Bodé, is a must. Actually for any fan of comics, art or even literature.

You have to be a fan of Vaughn Bode to like this book. Its more of a trip through his skull than his artwork. Not a kids book at all so be forewarned. But it does start to explain how his creation of Cheech Wizard came about.
