About book: Their old freind smiled and lifted a hand as he pulled away, his vehicle filled with his children bundled and eager for school. A familiar pang sliced into Miriam’s heart as she thought about the schoolhouse and the days she’d spent teaching there, but she pushed the memory down. Today she needed to focus on her family. There was no time to look toward the past. We could drive Grace to school ourselves now, she said to her husband. And deny her the chance to ride with Sadie? It would break both of their hearts, not to mention hurting Eli’s feelings

Another great story, full of mystery, romance, and strong characters. Lydia's been working for a gentleman at his retreat for people who want a "simple" getaway. He has passed away, and Lydia continues trying to maintain the cabins that were in need of repair some time ago. Enter the gentleman's relative, Aaron Troyer, who comes in like a bull in a china shop, blaming everyone else for the problems at the cabins, and not exactly wanting to be there. He would rather be farming back in Indiana, but his duty (and God's plan) has brought him here. So begins the rebuilding of the cabins, a mystery about some robberies that were occurring in the area, and a budding romance. I love that the readers also get to see what has become of MIriam, the school teacher who married in the previous Pebble Creek novel, and her growing family. It isn't necessary that you read the first book, but it does make the reader feel as if they are meeting old friends and gaining new ones in this character-driven fiction. I fell into Vannetta Chapman's books when An Amish Christmas was free, and have loved everything she has published. This new addition did not disappoint. If you want more Amish mystery in your books, be sure to read her quilt series, Falling to Pieces, A Perfect Square, and Material Witness.

While this book can be read as a stand alone novel, I think it is best to read the books in order. Many of the characters from the first book are found in this one as well. It is helpful to know their stories and how their lives are changing and growing.
I love how all the characters are treated with love and respect...including the very young and the older ones as well. This book doesn't quite move along as well as book 1, but it is still a great Amish story. Really 4 1/2 stars. There is the romance, of course, but also some mystery involved.

One thing I like about Vanetta Chapman Amish stories is how the characters are all strong, caring, loving and respectful of others. The English and Amish work together with mutual respect and understanding. Even the children are treated with respect and are shown as important members of the family and community. And above all else, God's love and Grace and forgiveness is ever present.

This is a great book and part if a truly wonderful series. I love Vanetta Chapman's books. I plan to read all that she puts out.

In A Home For Lydia we get to see what happens to Miriam , Gabe and Grace from A Promise For Miriam but also another wonderful story about the people of Pebble Creek.

Reading one of Vannetta's books is like taking a trip as you feel like you have been to Pebble Creek and shared the hurts, joys and love of the people there.

In this story we get to go along with Lydia Fisher as she goes about her life not dreaming how fast it will change when Aaron Troyer comes to town to oversee the small group of Plain Cabins his Uncle left for his family.

Lydia is the strong willed housekeeper at the cabins and not happy with the way her new boss does things.

Come along to Pebble Creek and see what happens when the sparks fly between these two.

When trouble comes to the community can they find a way to work together to save the business or will it fail and cause Aaron and his Aunt to leave town?

I highly recommend this book as I do all of Vannetta's books.

The Amish lady Lydia is very determined about her job to help with the plain cabins at Pebble Creek. Lydia has never gotten married. Can Lydia find love?? Though a little time has passed since the end of the first book, "A Promise for Miriam", there is a very smooth transition into this book with many of the same characters. I had really grown to like the main characters in the first book--Gabe, Grace & Miriam and her extended family--and was glad to see that they all played an important role in this book.

The book starts out with a young man in the last place he wanted to be meeting a young woman who is not really in the place in her life she had dreamed of and is a little confused about where her life is heading. The relationship is rather antagonistic to start with, but with the guidance of older and wiser friends things come around.

Again, Vannetta has done an excellent job showing that Amish are people too. They go through many of the same hardships and emotions that everyone goes through at some point; anxiety over the health of loved ones, teenage angst, jealousy, confusion over which path to take in your life. She shows how the amazing faith of these Amish characters help them get through all of it. They are quick to point out that it is Gotte's Will that things happen as they do. It is our job to trust God's Will and rely on Him to get us through. We should all learn from this.

There are many tough subjects touched on in this book, but Vannetta does a good job of illustrating the Biblical approach to these subjects.

I enjoyed this book and look forward to seeing what happens next in the community of Pebble Creek.
