What an amazing story!!!!!! Especially for believers and hopefully for all the people who pick up this book thinking they will be reading a FANTASTIC mystery writer but also learn biblical prophecy and how we are living in the end times. Many will make very un- kind comments of what I just said. Some many not buy this book because they think it "religious propaganda. But those who do read it will not be able to put it down and boy, will they learn much. This is reAlly really a great book there's not enough words to express it. READ IT

I was so glad that I read 'The Damascus Countdown' last, as it filled-in all the missing pieces of the battle between a false messiah, and his caliphate cronies against Israel. It was refreshing to read Middle Eastern events come alive, as if they were straight out of the New York Times, with a comparative narrative straight out of Biblical prophecy. I'm hoping there is a sequel, but will be content with this tear-jerking finale. It was refreshing to see characters from all walks of life see, meet and either accept or reject Jesus Christ in the context of their own lives. In a nutshell, you have Iranians, Muslims, atheists, agnostics, extremists, mid-Western Americans, spies, government heads and their intelligent agencies thrown into this mix. Thoroughly appreciated the 'David Shirazi' character - seeking truth, justice and 'doing the right thing', even in the face of his government's unwillingness to support Israel or his role in stopping another holocaust.

Well, I have to admit when I purchased Damascus Countdown I had no idea it was in the Christian genre which is just as well because although I'm a practicing Christian and half Jewish, I wouldn't have bought it. However I'm very glad I did. It was hard work in the beginning but the author has managed to intertwine a thought provoking, action novel with teachings from the Bible. The players are Israel, Iran, Syria, Pakistan and a reluctant USA with a top CIA operative code named Zephyr on the ground who has managed to infiltrate the echelons of the Iranian government. The 12th Imam or the Messiah in the Islamic world, has arrived and is hell bent on obliterating the "Zionist pigs" from the face of the earth. Close to this self appointed Messiah is a blind doctor of Islamic Religion who has spent his life preparing the way for this Imam, that is until he discovers God and the true Messiah, Jesus Christ and converts to Christianity. I really don't want to give too much away because it will spoil the suspense but I will say this. Israel who has reliable Mossad intelligence has declared war on Iran who are now claiming they have the right to retaliate. This Iranian madman, who rules as the Supreme Leader by fear alone brutally killing those who even look at him the wrong way, has 2 nuclear warheads that he fully intends firing at Israel. In addition to this he has convinced Pakistan to join the Caliphate and hand over their entire nuclear arsenal, a terrifying thought not just for the Middle East but for the entire world. Despite all odds, Zephyr's mission is to locate the warheads and disarm them. At this point we have Israel being bombed by Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah while at the same time trying to decide whether to risk bringing Syria into the war, a CIA agent with a near on impossible mission and no support from the President and a Caliphate run by a madman who wants to destroy Israel and any other country who stands in his way of creating a world dominated by the strictest form of Islam. The Bible tells us that Israel and Christianity will stand united against the Devil. Has this day come ?? This book is well written with enough facts to intrigue you but not so many as to bore you. For the 1st 20% of the book I could have put it down but something compelled me to keep reading and I'm glad I did because to have not finished it would have been doing an injustice to the author. If you enjoy thrillers please do yourself a favour and read Damascus Count Down. Thank you Mr Rosenberg and I look forward to your next novel.

As with each Joel Rosenberg installment, I eagerly await the next volume. "Damascus Countdown" began in the same pulsating fashion as his previous works. David Shirazi, as a covert double agent and new believer in Jesus Christ tries to find two missing Iranian warheads before they can be detonated and cause irreparable damage in the Middle East. He has to perilously juggle his cover as a communications broker for terrorism while trying to infiltrate the higher echelons of the Iranian regime controlled by the Twelfth Mahdi.Up to the time, when after a first strike against Iran by Israel, the Israelis are condemned by both the UN and the US,the prophetic analogies are credible, However the remaining two thirds of the book reads like an orchestrated military strike resembling an up tempo computer game.Mr Rosenberg becomes consumed with military logistics to the degree that Christian emphasis and attentiveness to prophecy becomes secondary at spots. Additionally, certain characters prominent in past books, now become insignificant footnotes and they are missed. The zeal of the converted Muslim scholar, Dr Bijandi, to evangelize Islamic youth and atone for past teaching of false doctrine is a spiritual focal point that is a refreshing interlude and does break up the tension of the conflict. Yet the conclusion presented is in this book is rather incomplete and while the ending is nice, I found myself wanting more in depth prophetic application.
