Best-selling author of The One-Minute Manager, Ken Blanchard, along with Phil Hodges, reveals the meaning of servant leadership modeled after Jesus Christ. Based on Blanchard's and Hodges' Faith Walk seminars, business leaders come to realize that teams are more powerful than the sum of the individuals and to recognize their people as appreciating assets.

Yes, it does have good messages about servant leadership and some great bible passages to compliment. Altogether, without the rather interesting formatting and clip art, this could maybe be a 25 page book. I'm glad I only paid $8 for it on Kindle, but I have definitely found more substantive pieces of literature for less, and would not buy again. I needed this for my class on leadership, and found it hard to actually read around the formatting, but enjoyed the message. Some pages are better than others, but there doesn't always seem to be a reason for font size or bold, much less the amount of clip art.

I read "The Servant Leader" as part of my on-boarding process with my new company. For several weeks, I've watched the leaders working within their planning, training, coaching and selling processes with great interest--as there is something deeper with more attention to what drives each and every employee than in other organizations for which I've worked. This has been very interesting because of the commitment and values-focus the executives apply.

Now--having read the book--I understand the basis of this employee development and support process. While the Christen focus at first surprised me, it is valuable to see how the servant leadership principles can be applied to practical aspects of today's organizations.

I understand the points made by some of the other reviewers about the brevity of the book and the lack of detail and depth. Unlike other such books--where detailed case studies and descriptions of how specific companies may have succeeded using this approach--I think this decision to keep the discussion at a high level works better. In this way, you can think through your own ways of aligning servant leadership with the goals, values and picture of the future of your own organization.

The authors recognize that bringing servant leadership into one's own management approach is no easy matter ... that it will take a long time, many iterations and constant visionary and implementation experimentation to finally succeed.

I think this book provides great insight on what it means to be a servant leader. Everyone at some point in their life is called to lead in some way and I would greatly recommend this book. Being a servant leader is true leadership as taught by the greatest servant leader, Jesus Christ. This book provides great tools and suggested follow up assignments to help keep you focused and grow your skills, and wisdom. Absolutely worth reading.

There has never been a better leader walk this earth than Jesus, and that is exactly what Ken Blanchard points out in this easy reading book. There is not a lot of fluff, just good to the point information. This book should be in any leaders library, it is my favorite leadership book, hands down.

No offence Ken, but this book is all about Jesus and the bible and as a confirmed atheist I find this offensive and misleading to sell this book without this overview. You have your opinion on religion and I have mine, they are not the same, but if you are going to sell a book, market it correctly for what it is.

A total waste of money for what I was hoping would be a good management read.

Many leadership books are too conceptual without outlining the specific conduct of a good leader. I suspect to the casual observer the book may seem rather unsophisticated in that it uses a fictional character to outline the traits and actions of a servant leader. But those who have actually wrestled with leadership will quickly see the value of this book. I intend to give a copy to young acquaintances who are just entering the work force. It's more than a leadership book. It's a relationship book.

As four generations are in the workforce today, I picked my book up again for another read. Today's leaders are more like parents or Role Models if you are a servant leader, so I enjoyed my refresher. So much is changing, and I am preparing the next generation of leaders so it's important to do it right. I love this book. I'm a Christian. It may not be a book for you if you do not believe in Jesus. The business principles are still spot on nevertheless.
Excellent leadership book and excellent hard cover. Only complaint is the print is gray and hard to read if not reading in well lit room
