While many people are writing books on prayer and revival, . Torrey's (1856-1928) book written in 1924 is still the classic handbook on prayer that gets answers. At two points, Torrey "harps on" about personal morality. This put me off at first. The Power of Prayer is fundamentally a primer on prayer but also a celebration of prayers answered. Torrey draws heavily from his personal experience and from the Bible to teach Christians how to pray. If there was ever a time to dust off this classic book on prayer it is now.

The Power of Prayer book. This book has a lot of good theological view points on prayer. It is very straightforward in expressing the need for praying people. Ye have not, because ye ask not (James 4:2). Below is one paragraph that perfectly sums up the topic of this book and how straightforward it is. But I came to see that the strength of his argument is entirely drawn from Scripture. Not that playing cards or ballroom dancing necessarily ruins our prayer life. But lack of personal holiness does.

This is one of the best books on prayer that I've ever read! I've read many books on prayer, but this is the first one that I've liked enough to write a review for. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to grow in prayer. In fact, if I could recommend only 1 book other than the Bible to someone who wants to grow in prayer, I would immediately point to this one. Seriously, it's that good!

I had a huge "aha!" moment when reading The chapter on WHO Can Pray So As To Get What They Ask. Torrey shows, time and time again throughout the book, how "normal" people like you and I can learn how to pray with power. I'm recommending it to other people in my church, and God is on the move!

R.A. Torrey's The Power of Prayer will change your life and how you pray, if you let it. This timeless book is needed today. Now nearly 100 years after it was written, find out what you should be doing when you pray. Also, understand some of the reasons your prayers may not be answered.

Torrey was a "side-kick" of D.L. Moody, and a great Christian educator. We need modern day Torreys to stand in the gap that is left by spineless salesmen who name the Lord's name. Torrey was not looking to be popular or to line his pockets. He was called to be faithful in his ministry. May his tribe increase!

As a handful of other reviewers noted, this kindle version contains only one chapter, and in fact ends mid-sentence. I doubt we will get issued a refund, but anyone who purchases this book under the misconception they are receiving a full book deserves a refund.

I first bought this book about 1970 or 1971 and loved it so much that I choose it as my favorite book on prayer, out of the many books on prayer that I have. I go back and read from it often. I always give this book to young preachers when they start out in ministry. I also have given this book to every member of some of the churches I have pastored. I would recommend every Christian read this book, keep it and return to it often. Dr. Torry was a great man of God.

The print on this book is horrible. It looks like a copy of a copy of a copy. I have the original printing of the book and it is an encouraging read on prayer. I would like to replace it. Unfortunately I waited too long to send it back now I am stuck with it. Don't buy this edition, the print is awful.

The book was first published in 1924 and some of the content is outdated. For instances, the author states that playing cards leads to crime. But the basic truth is that prayer has power and that makes it worth the time for a quick read.

I haven't completed the book yet. So far, it has been excellent. A real teaching book on prayer!
Yes, I rated it 5-star prematurely but I am sure this will be in my "classic" library for my lifetime.
An excellent book on prayer! Rekindling and using your prayer life!
