But life brought them both to a crisis of faith

Reminiscing to a reporter from his hospital bed in 2001, the haunted Templeton recounts Billy's simple beginnings, the moving love story of Ruth Bell, the moves of 'chance' and divine blessing that brought him success, and the growth of their friendship. But life brought them both to a crisis of faith. You already know how the Billy Graham story turns out. Billy tells of a moment in history when things might have turned out very differently.

Billy Graham remains one of the most iconic figures of our age: a man who has loved .

Billy Graham remains one of the most iconic figures of our age: a man who has loved & devotedly followed Jesus Christ and worked his entire life to make Him known, while keeping his integrity & humility intact. Or so I thought, until I read the book Billy: The Untold Story of a Young Billy Graham and the Test of Faith that Almost Changed Everything. The entire book is framed around an entirely fictional interview of Charles Templeton, an early friend of Billy Graham who turned away from Christianity.

His best friend, Charles Templeton, was already on track to be a highly successful evangelist and the two young men began strategizing on how to win the world for Christ. That plan takes a drastic turn, however, when Templeton deserts the faith and becomes an atheist. The impact of this decision on a young Billy Graham is immeasurable and agonizing. Charles would later become the great intellectual architect for agnosticism and atheism. Billy would become the single greatest messenger for the Christian Gospel.

A smooth read, page turner. However, the author / editor or anyone else involved in the writing should have researched deeper, especially the theological aspect, after all it is the story of a preacher.
Error: "metanoia" is translated as "sin" and repeated often enough in the story. "Metanoia" means repentance, conversion, change of mind. "Amartia" is the word for sin in the New Testament.

I was led to this book after watching Lee Strobel's The Case for Christ and reading his book The Case for Faith, which was written ostensibly to answer the well-publicized arguments against Christianity levelled by Billy Graham's close friend and colleague Charles Templeton. These intellectual difficulties surrounding the Christian faith had a deep and almost devastating impact on the rising Billy Graham. William McKay and Ken Abraham skillfully tell this important story. This is a must read for any person seeking to follow Christ and His leading in their lives.

In 1965, when i was 16 years old, i saved up every penny i could get, from allowances, yard work and baby sitting jobs, and bought an airplane ticket to Houston to see and hear Rev. Billy Graham at the Astrodome. I have listened to him on the radio before and after that, and read every book he ever wrote. This wonderful man of faith has had a profound effect on my spiritual growth and developmenbt as a Christian, as i know he has helped millions of people. I was therefore extremely interested and a little surprised to learn from this book, that he was not always so positive, that in his early years he went through a great struggle, especially when his best friend and fellow evangelist, Charles Templeton, consumed by doubts, lost his faith.

This book is an easy read, written in a smooth, flowing, narrative style, and is very pleasant all the way through, sometimes very thought-provoking. It is a must read for everyone who has been influenced or affected in any way by the life and ministry of Rev. Billy Graham.

The only thing I didn't like about this book was this mall font. I used it as a book for the book club in a nursing home. The residents loved the book!

This is not the compare and contrast biography that it appears to be. It is a well written religious novel based on real people and events. I was unaware that it was part of a movie tie in. The key story is interesting and would have been inspirational if told as a straight bio. The friendship between Graham and Templeton would have been good enough with no embellishments.
I bought this book as a Christmas gift for my pastor because he loves Billy Graham and all of the great preaching he did. I knew he had a lot of books by Billy Graham, but didn't think he had a book about him. I thought he would enjoy the story of his young life and how he became the man of God he became. He loved it. I bought one for me too and can't wait to begin reading it.
