Laura Keene Biography. After performing in her native London, Laura Keene came to America in 1852. She immediately found success on the American stage, and made history in 1855 by being a theatrical manager. The Laura Keene’s Varieties began that year. In 1865 she seen Lincoln’s assassination while she was performing at Ford’s Theatre. Performer, producer, and theatre manager. Produced around 1826 in London, England. Along with her successful career as an actress, she became the first female theatre supervisor in 1855.
