Whether or not you buy this book should be based on what you need it for. I am a college student trying to write an in-depth paper about California poppies, in all their aspects--history, medicine, etc. So when I saw this book online, provided without Amazon's Look-Inside feature I didn't quite know what I was getting. BUT the description said that it included history about the flower, and seeing as my university library had no books at all about the California poppy that had more than one paragraph of information I figured I had nothing to lose in buying this book.

I was wrong.

If you are looking for the same kind of historical information in this book you only need Google. Everything in here in terms of history is basic--not much more than what you would need to write a children's book on the subject, if I'm honest. That being said, this book should be bought ONLY if you want a nice decorative piece. The pictures (which make up the bulk of the book) are quite nice.

So, if you want lots of information about California poppies, don't buy this book or you will be disappointed. You can find it all through Google, and you won't have to pay for it.

The nicest book on California poppies that I have seen. Great information on all the varieties and with beautiful pictures. I bought this for my daughter and her husband as a gift to my cousin in Romania on their visit last summer.
A rare find because I understand the book is out of print.

If you love poppies you will enjoy this book. Lovely pictures. The only negative thing for me is, some of the pics are not as crisp and clear as I was hoping.

It is a nice book to keep on the coffee table, but not terribly informative. The pictures are lovely.
