Programming in Visual Basic.

Series: Computer Books for Seniors series. Paperback: 264 pages. Publisher: Visual Steps Publishing (April 1, 2014).

After receiving this book I found that only small objects such as a piece of trash could be removed. It's not the fault of the book, just inadequacies with the program.

In this book you will get acquainted step by step with some of the many things you can do with photos. You can sort and arrange your photos into albums. At the end of the book you will also learn how to import photos from a digital camera or other device to your computer.

Securing a digital photo collection is critical, and this manual shows the simple way that Picasa burns backup image files to a CD or DVD.

Designed specifically for older adults, this guide provides the tools for managing, editing, and displaying digital photo collections using the free Picasa software. Screen illustrations and step-by-step instructions demonstrate the variety of options available such as enhancing colors, deleting "red eyes," cropping images, printing photos, creating slideshows, and sharing a photo album on the Internet. Securing a digital photo collection is critical, and this manual shows the simple way that Picasa burns backup image files to a CD or DVD. Some Picasa options require a high-speed internet connection, though the software will run the same way whether using a Windows Vista, Windows XP, or Windows 7 operating system.

I wanted a guide about all the bells and whistles one encunters with Picasa. This book doesn't do it. Neither does the book's website. Nor, of course, does Picasa itself.

Here's an example of what I mean. I took six pictures and created a Picasa album. When I uploaded to email it, only one appeared in the transmission. I checked the library; all six were there, but only one had a green arrow at the bottom right. That is the one that uploaded. What I want to know is - what does the green arrow mean, and how do I put it on the other five pictures, so they too will upload. Neither Picasa nor this book offers a clue.

I have other questions of this kind, and it's frustrating that no one addresses them. I'd like something similar to the owner's manual you get with a car, or a camera.

This book has a lot of good things. It has a lot of illustrations and directions. Read what others have to say.

However, it has two problems. First, it goes into way too much detail such as changing the tint or editing a small portion of a photo. Remember, the audience is senior citizens, and all they want to do is to upload their pictures of the grandchildren for everyone to see. If you can't get seniors even to use email, there's no way they will be interested in all those details.

Second, there is no simple, one-page illustration of the whole process, only an explanation of each individual process. I wanted to see something that would show in one place how to get the pictures from my camera to the computer, how to arrange them them, and how to distribute them (either to Picasa online or through Eamil or facebook or whatever).

As a result of a lack of an overall description of the process I still don't know how to manage the whole flow.

I was looking for a good book to use with the free Picasa download for editing my digital pictures. Picasa didn't seem to have an editing function which would allow me to remove large unwanted objects such as power lines, poles, trees, etc. from the picture. After receiving this book I found that only small objects such as a piece of trash could be removed. The book probably would be a good one for us Seniors if you're not trying to do a lot of editing with the Picasa program. It's not the fault of the book, just inadequacies with the program.

I tried to teach myself Picasa by using the Picasa "help" feature and FAQs that I found online, but I was really struggling. This book was a big help. Not too much and not too little info, just right for someone like me who has never used this type of software before. I would definitely buy other books in the Studio Visual Steps series.

At last I have found a way to share photos with friends from my teenage years when we used to do so many things together. Now I can make slide shows with photos and burn them to CD or DVD and present them as gifts. Wont they enjoy the trip down memory lane when they see what I have done for them. Didn't I say, Visual Steps are just so inspiring and exciting.

As some other reviewer said, this is the book that should have come with the program. It covers the basics of Picasa, including how to download and set up. If you want to get into more advanced features this won't be the book for you. Also, I would never position Picasa as an editing program - there are far better photo editing services online that are free, with far more functionality.

A useful book, exactly what I needed. It is a step by step guide, sometimes with more step by step detail than I needed. It covered what I needed in order to become comfortable and reasonably proficient in using Picasa to prepare albums to transfer to my Picasa Web site.
This is an OK book. Picasa is a fairly complete photograph editing program and the book provides step-by-step instructions. I had some trouble editing pictures in the beginning so went to the start of the book. This introduced 'how to read and use' the book. Very helpful. I might recommend the book if you are going to do extensive editing. Otherwise, I found it too expensive. Some research on your own will provide you with what you need but will probably take more time than you wish to spend.
It might be work $18 to you.
