New Persian Cooking by Jila Dana-Haeri and Shahrzad Ghorashian. Jila: The first book I’d like to mention is an old Persian cookery book which is unfortunately not translated into English – but it’s the book we really started getting our ideas from. It’s called Neshat Khanoom and is by a lady who worked at the royal court in the early 20th century. Her father was a cook there. So it’s not that old. Shahrzad: No, but given that we don’t have that many old cookery books in Iran, this is one of the few that you could refer to for traditional ways of cooking. My mother was a brilliant cook but she could never give you a recipe. I just looked and learnt.

This is a great cookbook. Very well written. Excellent pictures. Lovely descriptions of the history of the various recipes and a great read. I can hardly wait to try them out. Next best thing to dining in Iran, which considering the political state of affairs is currently impossible. Highly recommend for any other foodies wishing to try heathful tasty dishes.

Not the best Persian recipes, but perhaps I'll find one or two that work.

This is one of the very few cookbooks I have actually cooked my way through. Even my notoriously picky Velveeta-loving husband has started requesting Persian dinners. Fabulous.
Still In Mind
This is a beautiful book. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in Persian food or in Iran in general.
