Tammy Wynette, the queen of Country Western, tells the inspiring life story of her ascent from rigs to riches. From teh obscurity of the tarpaper shack in Mississippi, to the splendor of the mansion in Florida. In reality, "Stand By Your Man" is a highly "sanitized" version of what must have been a fascinating life. D-I-V-O-R-C-E" should be her signature song but again, I'll give Tammy a pass.

In an interview with Marc Myers for the book Anatomy of a Song, producer and songwriter Billy Sherrill recalled, How a record sounded on the radio meant everything back then. The radio did strange things to music, and I didn’t want the single to sound too twangy or too flat.

Stand by your man Give him two arms to cling to And someone warm to come to When nights are cold and lonely.

Stand by Your Man book. I didn't think much of Tammy Wynette as a mother. She should have left motherhood with others, and just enjoyed her career. And lastly she talked about how good her last husband was to her. I had a hard time with this last chapter because I knew she was dead, and I knew who killed her. But, Tammy had made that decision; no one made it for her. Now would I read this book again?

I am giving Tammy a free pass on this review. In reality, "Stand By Your Man" is a highly "sanitized" version of what must have been a fascinating life. "D-I-V-O-R-C-E" should be her signature song but again, I'll give Tammy a pass. The reader will have to give credit where credit is due. This woman fought her way up from poverty in Mississippi,a loser of a first husband, took herself and her babies to Nashville, made herself a star and kept herself a star despite unhappy marriages (5?) and all sorts of health problems, which received less publicity than her marital woes. (Did George Jones really drive his lawn mower into town that night to get more booze? That was after Tammy hid all his car keys!) Maybe Tammy, after all she went through, is entitled to one little sanitized autobiography.

Ok, by now you must know I am a huge Tammy Wynette fan, and this is one of the reason's why I am, her story sealed the deal for me..Although Tammy endured many heartaches, she had a sense of humor like nobody I have ever read about..Alot of the stories of her life will have you rollin on the floor in laughter. Although she was married several times, she definately leaves you with the feeling that her one and only true love was for George Jones, she even states in the last chapter of her book George Jones will forever be her favorite Country Music Singer of all time...just a little footnote Tammy Wynette was married to George Richey at the time she wrote this book!

Although this is interesting reading if you are an old country and western music fan, you need to read George Jones "I lived to tell it all" and Georgette's book "the three of us", and also Jackie Daly's 'Tammy Synette: A Daughter Recalls".

I loved this book, it was well written, and she has a greta way of telling her life story. There were times when her times when it felt more like I was reading a novel. Tammy's tone is so conversational, and she shares it all. I have already started reading it again. What an inspirational woman, and what a great telling of her life.
