Francis O'Neill (August 28, 1848–January 28, 1936) was an Irish-born American police officer and collector of Irish traditional music. His biographer Nicholas Carolan referred to him as "the greatest individual influence on the evolution of Irish traditional dance music in the twentieth century". O'Neill was born in Tralibane (also Trawlebane), near Bantry, County Cork. At an early age he heard the music of local musicians, among them Peter Hagarty, Cormac Murphy and Timothy Dowling

I am hcv men
You'd have to be a hard-core Irish music aficionado to wade through this, but then that's exactly what I am. I didn't read it all at once. I spread it out over a couple of months and found it very enjoyable. Of course it's old-fashioned. It was written in the late 1800's. O'Neill was a critical figure in the preservation of Irish dance music. In fact there's a whole book devoted to him called "A Harvest Saved." It's interesting to hear it tell the story himself. Irish musicians around the world owe him a great debt of gratitude. And we are lucky to have publishers who will republish these antiquarian volumes.

Francis O'Neil wrote a classic book about Irish Music from his home in Chicago. A mecca for Irish Traditional Music from the Irish immigration during the 1800's. A great insight into the characters and musicians that built the tradition.
